alternator lead?

My 97 lt1 wiring diagram shows tha a brn (or red) wire goes from the alternator to the PCM. With the alternator in plave, I cannot locate the lead. Anyone know where it is on the alternator?

Re: alternator lead?

There's a rubber boot protecting the connection. It should be behind the alternator, just look carefully.

Re: alternator lead?

I see the thick red wire going to the battery leading from the back of the altnernator. I also see a socket marked "Bat" on the back of the altnernator, but no wire.

Yes, I clearly find that wire. The wiring diagram show a second wire (brn or red) going to the instrument cluster (the v6 goes to PCM first), then back to the fuse block as a pink wire. This is the one that I can't locate.

Re: alternator lead?

That other one has a connector with a retaining clip. I do not have the picture for it, but it should be on the bottom of the alternator in the back. Sometimes it's hard to find. I'll see if I can find a picture of it later.

Ion,

Thanks, that was enough of a description. It is hard to find, but it has been found.

Re: alternator lead?

I'm bringing this post back from the dead.
I know this sounds stupid but I'm stuck and need a permanent fix. Alternator red lead wire accidently got caught on the Alt pulley and broke. What guage wire is that, 8ga or 6ga? Well, I can't find 8-6ga Anywhere, even butt slices and eye round terminals I cant find which is odd. I've tried pepboys, hardware stores, stereo shops, autozone, kragens, you name it..this sux. All the stuff I found is for stereos and mostly all the wire stuff is up to 10ga. Seems like my only option at the moment is to run a $5 4ga Batt cable from the Alt to Batt terminal. So...is it alright to do this, I dont see why not but then again I'm not electrically inclined?

Thanks.

Re: alternator lead?

Bigger won't hurt, but don't go smaller. It's an 8 gauge wire.
