Alternator Wine?

Something under my hood sounds like a blower. The more i floor it the more it sounds. I was thinking it could be my alternator, but ive also heard from others it could be my steering pump about to take a crap. Any ideas?

Most likely a whine is related to the power steering. My 96 Firebird did that and I drove it for 3 years whinning and it never hurt anything. Does it get worse when you turn the wheel?

Alternator

I just replaced my alternator for that exact reason. After driving the car pop the hood and put your hand on the alternator to see how hot it is. BE CAREFULL it could be pretty hot. If it is too hot to touch that is probably your problem. The whine you are hearing is the bearings. Just for peace of mind check your power steering fluid level. Hope this helps.

I would check the alternator first. Power steering pumps are $$$. Mine did the same thing about a year ago. I changed the alternator, as well as put all 3 power steering pump lines and fluid box. Still a bit of whine, but everything helped.

Most guys like their car sounding like it has a blower!!!

lol since you mentioned, i was at a liquor store one day waiting for my bro. This guy in a gt was beside me. He revved his engine on me and i reved back( i always have cutout open). He asked me about the blower i had under my car i said it was a 9psi vortec blower. Then bro got into the car and we left, i gave him one last revved to make his day.
