Aluminum Drive Shaft

Well I have the high speed vibration and I was wondering if an aluminum drive shaft from an LS-1 would solve this problem. Thanks Matt

Assuming your vibration is from an unbalanced driveshaft, then most likely yes.

If you're set on getting an aluminum driveshaft, I'd at least get the stronger 1LE instead. The only ds's I've seen mentioned on here that have been twisted up are LS1's (and Injuneer's bad experience with the ACPT). It costs more, but it's by no means and expensive ds - and, of course, you get what you pay for.

I bought the 1LE years ago to cure my vibration and it has been good since, stronger too.
I paid around 300 or so for mine from the dealership. I was new to the LT1s and did not know there were cheaper sources than the dealer. You should be able to get it cheaper from Cromer or Dal.

Do a title search of the "LT1 Tech" forum using the title "Driveshaft Vibration Problem Solved". You may want to try what's suggested there BEFORE you buy an aluminum driveshaft?

I'm poised to get the 1le DS, but I don't belive that my 97SS has a vibration problem.

You can probably get your DS balanced for around $50.00. At least you'd know whether or not it is the DS that is causing the Vib before you spend the money for the Al DS. JMHO.

Please let us know if the DS cures the Vibration.

Thanks.

I shattered my Dynotech Engineering 6061-T6 aluminum driveshaft into 4 pieces on the first launch with the street twin. As far as Denny's driveshafts, the only ones he challenges you to break are the nitrous ready steel. He actually doesn't recommend the aluminum ones for the F-bodies.
