another fuel pump question!

I have bought the gms 255 intank pump ( its says walbro on the side of it) from summit for 125. It has a nice plug and play harness that fit my 97 perfect.

What I need to know is it came with a clamp so I have been told to do away with the bucket the stocker sat in. I wanted to know if I did that what do I do with the little vent hose next to the stock pump in the bucket?

Re: another fuel pump question!

Does not matter. I run dual walbro intank pumps. Totally tricked with independent circuits. Also a K-Bell booster. Needed the fuel for the blower an 72# injectors. Did you rip thru the floor pan from top to install???

No but I should have went through the floor.
What did you do with the vent the was in the tan colored bucket? Just leave it or cut it near the top of the unit?

Re: another fuel pump question!

Inside the bucket, there was a small wicking type strainer. I just reatached that to a hose (clamp it so it will not come off) and ran it to the tank. This is the stock fuel return line. The gm system returns fuel to the bucket. There is another vent hole from the bucket to the tank. I have the following

(1) Vent pressure relief.
(2) fuel supply - two pumps.
(1) fuel return.
(1) emmisions line to tank.
(1) roll-over valve. - I replaced this with a summit check.

I had to fab a NEW plate to carry the pumps and plumb all the fuel lines.
It flows now!

No more bucket. I had trouble sealing it. Try "seal all" adhesive. Good for gas. JB weld will not work in gas.

About not using the bucket, If you dont have a full tank of fuel when taking hard corners, the pump will not be getting fuel because it is all on one side of the tank I would reuse the bucket. I got my pump from racetonix and it had been machined by them to fit in the stock bucket.

i have heard of 2 cars now (and seen one car in person) that have been able to reuse the stock bucket with the GMS pump, you might be able too

Re: another fuel pump question!

I reused the bucket with my Racetronix pump also. Reusing the bucket is a very good idea.

Re: another fuel pump question!

thanks all. If I have more problems with the bucket I will do without it. Running low on fuel to save 50 pounds on a 3600 or so pound car has cost me to run out twice causing my pump to go bad. I like being able to getting in car if I need to go more than 50 miles and not put gas in it first. You never know when the late night phone call comes and you forget to get gas untill its to late.

Re: another fuel pump question!

No bucket. 2 pumps will not fit. Pumps mount vertically on top of each other. You don't want to run your tank down to the minimum. So far, no starvation on hard cornering. Although my car is blown, it still has a road race suspension. I like my euro with rice!
