Any cam that increases power within stock rev range?
I've just spent the last two hours reading over threads about cam swaps and spun rod bearings. While there are a number of factors (even including bad luck), high revs seem to be a major contributing factor.
So... if you wanted to be ultra-conservative and still stick to the stock red-line of 5800 (or 6000 tops) is there any cam that would still increase power (power under the curve)... or is this not possible... ?? I do understand you'd be giving up a lot of potential power by limiting revs like this...
I was wondering about a (custom) cam that would basically stick to the stock valve timing, but would have much more lift... would something like that do the job?

I don't know about sticking to stock valve timing, but Bret Bauer, Joe O., futral motorsports, etc.. will custom grind a cam that will be in the 2500-6200 rpm range. Good luck getting specs, though. Bret's screen name is SStroker Ace. You could also call futral and talk to John, (225) 791-9593. He can get you a custom grind for almost any application. He'll actually give you specs. Very nice guy too. Hope that helps.

I would just pick up a used HotCam and have the shift points set a little early, say 6200 or so. Or with what your 60ft. times are in your sig why not pick up a Vig 2800 or 3200 stall and knock some time off your ET that way if thats what your looking for, (lower ETs that is). That way you don't have to open up the motor. By the way, I sent you a PM.

There are plenty of manufacturers who have cams available or you can go custom. Are you talking about a head upgrade too? Or just a cam swap?

Crane is the only CARB cam but there are others including the HOT CAM that can be tuned to pass smog. Depends how strick your area is on smog.

Yes, it will be a very small cam in duration but it's not a problem to do at all..... it's actually a lot like cams for Impala SS's with stock gears and a small converter. BTDT

If you just want more lift go with 1.6 or 1.7 Roller Rockers... I would also love a cam that pulls from 3500 to 6300 or so, the engine will be stock internals besides the cam and 1.6 RR... Full bolt-ons... btw I just registered

Thanks. When I get closer, looks like you're the man to call. BTW, what does BTDT mean... ??
