Any tips on getting to spark 1997 z28

First tune up for me on this car , Got the drivers side spark plugs changed without to much headache,
But I can tell that will not be the case on the passenger side ,
ANyone have any tips or tricks other than patience and a lot of band-aids?
Is it necessary to remove some of the other engine components to get to these plugs or is it just a matter of finding the right angle to get to the plugs ??

Do some of them from underneath. I cut a plug socket down so I could turn them with a open box wrench. Lt1s are a PIA.

Re: Any tips on getting to spark 1997 z28

Thanks for the info !!

I am waiting on my rotor cap ,ignition coil, and wires to come in ( had to order them, part stores around here do not even carry stock tune up parts for the lt1 ). Msd cap &rotor, Accel coil , msd super conductor wires & decided to try e3 diamond fire plugs if anyone would like to comment ( good or bad) on the parts I went with.

But anyway..... I am thinking that since I have to pull the water pump to change the distributor cap any way it might make it a little less painful to change the spark plugs if I remove the alternator ???
ANy thoughts ...........
Not that I really want to wait , I mean I am already half way there, but I just do not see anyway of getting at those front plugs. At least I can see the wires ( not the boots just the wire LOL ) on 6 & 8 . But 2 & 4 I can not even see any of the spark plug wire or am I able to get my hand anywhere close to the area where the plugs should be ( D&*% this massive forearms LMAO)

Remove the alternator. Then you can get #2 and #4 (from the top). #6 and #8 are easiest from the underneath.
Using the right combination of straight and universal and/or wobble extensions is the key.

E3's are "gimmick" plugs.... the extra large ground electrode probably shields the spark and causes more problems than good. There is no substitute for a conventional, single-electrode spark plug. You don't indicate what, if any mods your engine has (you need to add a "Signature" with that basic info), but if it's basically stock, the NGK TR55 iridium plugs would be a good choice.

Re: Any tips on getting to spark 1997 z28

she is all stock haven't got around to the msd wires and distibutor cap yet.
As far as the e3's being a gimmick and "causing more harm than good"
what should I be on the lookout for?

I have only had them in for about a week but I am seeing a noticable difference in gas mileage ( increase) which in my mind translates to engine efficency. Am I wrong ?

So the gimmick appears to be working for me so far LOL

Not trying to be argumentative just trying to learn!!
Thanks for the help !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Any tips on getting to spark 1997 z28

Ok well I will post what I learned for anyone else who comes along looking for tips.
The biggest help I found was to jack up the BODY of the car. This creates a little more of a gap between the fender well and the exhaust and changes the job from impossable to just really hard LOL. If you use a hoist or ramps there is just no way to get to the plugs.

Good luck and it takes a whole lot of patience!!
