Just curious how bad the cam surge is and if it is possible to drive with that size convertor. I plan to do a convertor swap in the future but i would rather get the cam and then get the convertor to match it. Also if you have this type of setup what times are you turning?

i've already got gears, stall, long tubes, and about damn near every other thing imaginable but i'm wondering if anyone has ran a convertor that small with either of these cams. comp recommends a 2500 stall with the cc306 but i think that is a joke and i'm looking for some people with these cams in autos for input.

I disagree with 1 Nasty on the process there.
When ordering a stall for your specific needs (race car? daily driver? compromise of the two?) and set up, the cam spec's are are an important piece of information the converter manufacturer uses to come up with a stall for your car.
That said, if you want a stall matches to your cam, you'd get the cam, then order the stall. You could also try just getting the stall set up for the cam you have in mind and get the cam later. Of course, another option is to just pick a stall out of a catalog/web site and order it without going through the customization process.

I would get lloyed elliot to port your heads and get one of his custom cams I am sure he can answer all your ?'s. You could probably need a 3000stall at least for any of his grinds. Hope this helps

I did some research on the 230/236 cam before the stall was ordered for the build up i am doing. 2800-3200 seemed to be the best, anymore than 3200 most people said was excesive with that cam, I went in the middle with a 3000 stall vig. Anymore than that I think is going to be kinda annoying on a daily driver/street car, it just depends on what you can live with.

just chekin in here also. in my Iroc I have a biger cam (w/3:73 gears) and since my cheapo stall broke, I had to put back in the stock conv.. it drove very nice and didnt have any surging. shouldnt be a problem at all.

You can get away with running the cam on the stock stall for a while. I was running my 230/236 last week on the stock stall. Granted that it will bog really bad out of the hole but it'll still run. I just ordered a midwest 3200 stall for it. And, yes there was some cam surge issues.

I'm running my 306 on a stock converter and it's just fine. Am I getting the full potential out of the cam? No, but it is fine for me and make a great daily driver. Gas mileage is not bad, and there is minimal cam surge.
