Anybody try installing roller rockers this way?

I was on shoebox's page and one of the methods he used to install roller rockers was to tighten them all down then turn on the car and losen the roller rocker untill it starts clicking and then tighten it a 1/4th of a turn. Has any body tried this method and how does it work versus the other way, it seems alot more simple... Thanks

I have done it this way and it does work well. First, only tighten them enough to take up the lash between the rocker and push rod. Then start it, back one off until it ticks, tighten until it stops ticking and then turn 1/2 turn. Repeat for remaining rockers. You can do one side of the engine in about 3 minutes.

Which ever method you choose, do it right. If your rockers are too loose and you nail it, you might cause the rocker to move off the valve and beat the hell out of the valve keeper and drop a valve on top of the piston, espe : cially if you have SA RRs.

I assume that you have the correct spring pressures too.

The easiest way is not always the best way. JMHO

That method(running) has been used for over 40 years. It IS a proven method.

Ya loosen until clicking, tighten just until it stops clicking, then 1/4 turn and you are done with that valve.

Nobody said it wasn't a proven method. The object of the adjusment is simply to make sure the rockers stay in touch with the valve stems. Once they are adjusted correctly, they probably won't need further adjustment.

It is not rocket surgery, but I like to make sure that they are all adjusted so that if I need to put an extra 1/4 turn on them to quiet them down, I can use the motor running method AFTER I do it with the motor off.

It's a free country, you can use your mouth to haul coal if you want, and...you can adjust your rockers with the engine running. Some here even say it can be done in less than 3 minutes a side--so if you want to get it done in less than 6 minutes, by all means--start your engines.

BTW, I have adjusted rockers with the engine running 40 years ago.

On the other hand I didn't rev my engine over 6000 RPMs.

Back in '55 when the 265 came out is where I learned on a v8 the '54 auto's streight six also had hyd but with a shaft rocker set up.I know its a proven method no argument there.
Seems like he was having trouble with the method and his adjustment wasn't right so I tryed to brake it down. I wasn't knocking what ya said but there is no need for an attitude.
