Anyone have a problem with this LT1 rebuild kit from Summt?
The teardown and pulling of the engine starts this week and since the engine has been sitting for 10 years I'm sure every gasket on the block needs to be replaced.
For the block the question now becomes would it be wise to replace all the bearings? I more than likely wont need the pistons in the kit but I'm sure the block will need a freshening up. I guess I'll have to wait and see if the crank needs anything when it comes out.
The car itself has 59,000 milles on it, would I need to get the cylinders bored?
Here's the kit: http://www.summitracing.com/parts.as...M-CSMHP766-300
For the top end I figure I'd use the vendor here, port masters, for a stage 1 head job with intake matching, 1.6 rockers, and a decent cam for a daily driver (recommend a cam if you'd like.)
Jet Hot long tube headers are still in the box, never used.
Stock fuel system, with a full tank of 10 year old gas still in it.
I have an unused Mezeire water pump from 1998 still attached to the pump housing so I'll have to see what I'm going to do with it.
Thoughts? Advise? Experience? Thanx

You need to tear it down check everything out before you order anything.
Why pay for parts if you don't need them. If the motor really only has 59k miles on it I bet you don't need to do much at all.

Yea definatly dont buy parts you won't need. When you take it to your machine shop they'll check your cylinder walls and everything else over. I just got my block for my 95 z28 back with 82,000 miles on it and the walls looked good on it so it didn't need to be bored. Ask for the bearings i'd replace them while its all apart but you could also ask the shop what they think. I'd also think about another opti simply bc they mess up a lot and they are a pain in the *** to replace.
