Is anyone running the GM846 cam?

I'm looking to get a bigger cam for my car, but I want to still have some nice low-end torque. Is anyone running the 846 cam and have any dyno #'s or track #'s with it? And how is the driveability with it?

i was going to go with the 846, IMO its a very streetable Cam, not many people run it, like i said, i was goign to go with it but i am going with a LE1 package now, more power for a great price! the 846 is probably the best streetable Cam on stock heads.

I am also interested in the GM 846 cam. It seems like a great middle range cam for stock heads. I wasnt even considering it, until I was flipping through my GMPP catalog and saw it was similar to the CC305. Definately interested in comments from anyone who is running it.

Re: Is anyone running the GM846 cam?

Another member - Big Dave - had this to say about the GM846:

I recently installed this cam and am extremely happy with it. My previous cam had the same duration but less lift. The addition lift of this cam has given me much more torque than before. This past weekend I was able to run a new best of 11.94 with a 1.59 60'. My previous best was 12.01 with a 1.67 60' but I had pulled a 1.64 best. My car does have ported stock heads but the combo is still extremely streetable. On a trip to the beach, I got a little over 20 mph. Not bad considering I also have 3.73s and a 3200 stall. You definitely can't go wrong with this cam.

I'm happy with the GTP4 - easily daily driveable. I've just added 1.6rr's, electric wp, longtubes, underdrive, and some suspension work so we'll see if the times improve this coming weekend.

Where did you get the GTP-4 cam and what are the specs of it?

Re: Is anyone running the GM846 cam?

Bought the camshaft off of a buddy of mine, CANTONRACER, last year. Great cam - considered moving up to his old GTP6 cam this year but i'm gonna stick with the 4 and ride it out.

Specs:
.226/.236 .534/.560 114 LSA

Not as choppy as some of the other cams out there but I think you can tell there's a cam stuffed in there.

Took this a couple weeks ago right after the LT install - before I tore the car down again.

Why not just go with the XE224/230 it has a hell of a torque curve and should make more torque than the 846 by design.

I haven't seen anything from the xe cams that really has impressed me, so I'm going to stay away from them for now...

My buddy put down 340 rwhp with his 224/230 and all bolt ons. I'd say thats pretty damn good.

That video doesnt do the real sound justice, it doesnt convey 1/8 of the depth of the sound. With that exhaust you can feel the cam bumping in your chest. Also are those lift #'s with 1.6's or 1.5's?

Do you have any track #'s or dyno #'s with it? And how is the driveability, any cam surge, and how is the lowend?

Sorry took so long to reply Dustin - long day - the numbers are with 1.6's that I just installed. On the stock 1.5's they were : .501/.526 lift

Thanks for the comment on the exhaust, I almost forgot I started it up when you were here. Too loud for my taste - I have to roll through my neighborhood late at night when returning from the track and i'd rather not be disrespectful to my elderly neighbors around here. I'll be fixing that soon hopefully, just haven't decided on a replacement exhaust system yet.

Re: Is anyone running the GM846 cam?

Let us know how it goes. Where did you order it from and how much did it set you back? Did you find any good information on it? If so, could you send some my way, I have been looking up about the cam for sometime but havent found anything solid on power/times/etc. It seems like a great medium size cam, something my engine would like very much
