Anyway to swap 96 ODBII PCM in a 97 ODBII car without messing with VATS?

My buddies 97 SS is getting no spark at the coil. No signal to the injectors, and no spark anywhere. We have replaced the coil, opti, plug wires, etc. We are now thinking it could be an issue with the PCM. Our buddies car is a 96 and we want to swap out PCM's. My only concern is the VATs and since it uses the pellets value to "unlock" the pcm to run. Is there any easy way around this to swap these PCMS and see if thats the problem?

Keys have nothing to do with PCMs. You can swap them without any problems.

yeah, the key is only coded in the BCM, not the PCM
