autozone distributor...

autozone distributor...

well i purchased this distributor from autozone not exactly what i was thinking it would be, i guess its the inside of the opti, not what ive seen in pictures, can anyone give me directions to "rebuilding" it

Take it back and get the entire unit from Jason or some other source of GM parts. Do not waste your time with electrical parts from Autozone or any other cheap retailer. You will be sorry in the end.

I have bought this peice from Autozone and haven't had a problem. But if you have to replace both the cap and rotor and distributor then go with the entire unit elsewhere. If you want to stay with what you have you are going to need a deep well reverse torx E4. I was only able find one through Snap-On and their part number is STLE40. The distributor should have came with instructions and it's very simple to take apart and swap out.

Actually you can just use one o the throttle body plate bolts to take out the torx on the opti. Much cheaper and easier solution

And yes the distributor is VERY simply...just take out a few torx and then tighten them back up is about it.

I bought the same from Autozone for my 94... You need to buy both the distributor(opti) and the cap and rotor kit... Make sure you get 3 pieces with the cap and rotor kit... Cap, rotor and opti housing... I didn't get the plastic opti housing but in some areas of the country the kit does come with it... If you don't get it, you'll need to use your original... The original opti housing can be removed by prying it off the opti with a screw driver.. Just make sure you don't gouge it or it will just be another place moisture may get in... To attach the new cap to the opti, I used vise grips and a screw from an old rochester carburetor... You'll also need a very small (T-8 or T-9) torx to install the rotor... It's easy to do, but it ended up costing me $330 and you can get a complete unit for $300 from a couple of places.

ok new question, i drove it yesterday after letting it sit for 2 days... and now the problem seems to be completely gone, do you think it is still damaged and i should replace it or just to wait until it craps out on me, ive gone maybe 100 miles since then and it no hard starts no problems...
