Bad day at track!

Hey guys,

I just ran between a 15.1 to a 15.3 at the track the other day. I usually in the past run low 14's to mid 13's. I have noticed since i modded my car times have actually became worse. I recently installed a vigallante converter and headers and still have problems with my track times. It seems like from my 1000 foot times on to the end of the quartermile seem to end kind flat. My thousand foot time now is about 12.7 and ending time is 15.1 to 15.3 at 91mph. compared to 11.7 at 13.4 at 100 mph. Any ideas why I would have such a discrepency????

Re: Bad day at track!

I recently put my stock mass airlfow sensor back on because I was running too rich. The hypertech did not lean my car out like it should had done. Now that I put the stock mass airflow back on it runs not so rich.

Was this before or after runs at the strip.

If it's still running rich it won't pull out the back door. Ya might want to check your timing retard also.

Re: Bad day at track!

Since I put in the stock MAF, the car is not running rich anymore! I might just have to get the car tuned. Maybe the hypertech is just junk and my MAF just needs to be calibrated by a custom tune. I could try just taking off my hypertech programmer and then see how it runs.

People say the Hypertech don't cut it. Reset everything back stock and remove it. Then unhook the bat for 15 min. then go drive it at highway speeds and very the RPM's a few thousand and let it relearn,it will take a few miles 50 or so.

Re: Bad day at track!

A tune is definately worth it. I have a Granatelli MAF and it's fine. Not
worth the money, but a very small margin better than the stock MAF.
This is on a dyno tuned PCM.

Funny, i ran 14.4 stock with the auto and 130k. Now with mods in sig and the 3.23's i run worse. Someone needs to teach me to drive a manual at the track.

Re: Bad day at track!

What was your 60ft time?

I would put the stock maf on and remove the hypertech programming then give it a try again.

Re: Bad day at track!

I usually just get the OBD tuned by a local company, hypertech never seemed all that reliable to me.

Re: Bad day at track!

My sixty foot time is now 2.30 which is not very good considering that i have a vigalante torque converter. I will take the hypertech off and then try it. I also might put my LT4 knock module back in to help the retarding. I think the lt4 module will only help

Re: Bad day at track!

Also, do i put the lt4 module back in first or do I put the pcm back to stock first? or does it matter?

heheh... OK, your problem is not at top end. it's all through your powerband.

a stock lt-1 usually runs 2.0 to 2.1.... maybe 2.2 with a lot of miles on it.
With a larger stall (which incedently you haven't told us how big it is) you're 60' time should be lower unless you had awful launches.

Like I said before take off the aftermarket MAF and see what happens.

While you're at it. check for burnt plug wires. you might have misrouted one when you put the headers on
