Battery drain

My TA is having an issue with the battery always being dead. I used a test light on the negative cable and the negative terminal. Bulb is lit but dims when I close the door which is normal. Pulled all fuses inside the car while holding the sensor in so it thinks the door is shut. None of the inside fuses shut the light off. Went to the under hood fuses and got to fuse #4 which shut the light off. I also pulled #3.

what would cause my headlight to drain the battery while the car is off?

Re: Battery drain

Put a clamp meter on the 12v cable off the battery and take a reading. Then start pulling fuses and see if the draw stops. Once you found the fuse that's drawing the current you can address the problem.

Re: Battery drain

Truthfully I really don't understand your post. It's very confusing. I posted a generalized procedure for finding a draw in the electrical system.

Re: Battery drain

Could be a problem with the headlght motor control module or one of the headlight motors (possibly due to worn gears).

Re: Battery drain

Where is that module located? Is there any way to test it?

Re: Battery drain

Stock location is attached to the side of the air filter box behind the driver side headlight. Unplug it and see if the drain is still there. If someone installed a CAI they had to relocate it. If you unplug it and the drain disappears, plug it back in and unplug the headlight motors one at a time. That should locate the problem.

Re: Battery drain

pulled both motor connectors, light stayed on. Pulled the power connector from the control module, light went off.

Anyone know if this part is still made? I'd like to get new if I can.

Re: Battery drain

PM member "GaryDoug". He knows everything there is to know about the headlight control module.

Re: Battery drain

Swapped a different control module with no change. With negative cable off, I can hear both my motors ticking inside.

Is there suppose to be power at the fuses for the headlight doors when the car is off? At fuse 4 there is 10 volts and fuse 3 there is 10 volts

And before I got done typing this, I can no longer hear them ticking.

Re: Battery drain

Could an alternator with a bad diode drain a battery or a starter solenoid that is bad?

Re: Battery drain

Im confused as what the problem is..So your headlight is on all the time? I'd find a wiring diagram for it and start there. Any type of electrical diagnosis IMHO should always start with a wiring diagram in one hand. If your headlight gets power from a module you could possibly have a short to power somewhere. Since you already replaced module. Id say start with a wiring diagram and go from there before you shotgun parts. Good luck man I'll try and upload wiring diagram if I can get one

The headlights don't stay on. I'm just trying to figure out what's draining my battery while the car is off.

Re: Battery drain

You appear to have identified the headlight motors as the problem (not the lights). Try using a multi-meter rather than your "light". Read Brent Franker's guide on the headlight motor gear problems. It may have info on power draw problems. Did you PM GaryDoug?
