BCM, Starter Probs, Shoebox please come in
ok for the past 48 hours i've been researching and trying to figure out what the hell the deal is.
Here are the symptoms:
no interior lights, no stereo, trunk release no worky, & windows no worky.
The purple wire to the starter has no power coming from it. Which from research points me to the Theft deterrent relay and Body Control Module.
So we take the theft relay out and test it. It trips so it's good. We put it back in and it get power to it but doesnt trip. So we jump it. I turn the key it fires up for the first time in 14 months. But we ended up burning our new wires running from the battery to the starter. Were not sure as to why yet but I think the Purple wire was touching the groundon the starter.
So anyways what the hell do we do next?
I was thinking it was a bad BCM but after reading others did too but it turned out that it wasnt bad. It's like it has no ground but we checked and it does.
Im sure there's smething els im leaving out, but please help

You need to see if the BCM is providing the ground to engage the TDR when it is supposed to. There are schematics on my Tech Page.

Check the wiring under the column going to and from the IGN switch.
Red brings power all the time to the switch. It also provides power to the BCM all the time.
Brown is hot in ACCY and Run. This wire takes power to the BCM.
Pink and orange are both hot in run.
Yellow which goes to the TDR is hot only in the start position.
Also check power out of the BCM on the grey wire. It goes to the radio and window fuse.
The BCM is grounded on 2 pins (3 actually). It gets ground from the LH lower A pillar stud behind the kick panel. However it must pass thru a splice first about 10 inches away from the BCM. Ohm it out.
If you have ground on those 2 and the pink, orange and red wires are hot and the key is making good contact, then the yellow/black wire (going to the TDR) should now be grounded. If it is not grounded, the BCM is defective.

I will check on this later today.
But it seems this happens to people when they take out their dash's.
Does this have anything to do with switching from OBD2 to OBD1 PCM you think?

Ok SHoebox and whoever else...........
Just took the starter out. Hooked up some jumper cables to it from my Yellow top.
And used a piece of wire between the 2 powers to see if it works.
The propeller or gear (whatever its called) pops out but does not turn. It also starts to smoke. Just sounds like a pellet gun going off.
Also like I stated earlier our wires melted from our last start up. So I checked the jumper cables and they were very hot.
So I believe that's my problem. Hopefully this will solve my problems???
I just called O'Rieleys to see if they have a starter. And I think im going to grab an LT4 starter from them for $144.
this sound ok to everyone. or should I go with an LT1 starter?
thanks
Jason

As far as electrical goes if it's not a reputable name, use OEM.
I've used this starter for years

If you don't know the reputation of the manufacturer that makes the O'Reilly starter, it's best to stay clear of it.
just my 0.02
