Belt Tensioner

do the belt tensioners for the serpentine get weak........my belt started to squeal almost all the time and the belt is only a few months old.......it seems to be worst at an idle but maybe I just cant hear it as much when the engine revs

Are you sure you got the correct replacement belt?

By coincidence, the last time I changed my serpentine belt the bearings went out in the tensioner after replacing the belt. They are only ~$15 IIRC.

I used the same part number as the one I took off and that one was fine and didn't squeal, it was just rotted and coming apart....This one has been fine since I put it on in September....until the last few days....I guess I better check all the pulleys for drag.........I wouldn't expect a bearing to be going out since i ran my fastest time ever at the track Friday night and it was squealing then and before then

Sometime the belts can become glazed with oil, dirt and road crud. This can increase the likelihood of squealing. If you have the right sized belt and it is in good condition, try removing it and cleaning. It might make a difference.

There is an indicator/pointer on the tensioner assembly that shows you if the belt is the correct length, or has stretched. Might want to look at that first.

alright I'll look for that and if it's ok I'll slip it off and maybe clean it up with brake cleaner or something.
