Question Belt Tensioner help.

I replace my Belt Tensioner because it was weak.
I got a GM one from the dealer.
It's been fine for about six months.
Now it swings like a pendulum.
Why what up with that?
It stills puts alout of Tension on the belt.
It's ok going down the road but when I stop my alt stops charging and my Ac start's to get warm.
So what the heck do I have to replace it agine?
Does any body know what the warranty would be on it?
How can the Tensioner be bad but still have good Belt Tension.

Thanks,

Chris G.

That does sound like a contradiction. Are you sure some other accessory is not dragging? Use a socket and ratchet and feel the tension on the tensioner. There is also a scale or gauge on the tensioner body with some arrrows that tell you if the tensioner is riding in the correct range to provide good tension.

GM offers a 12mo/12,000mi warranty on parts sold across the counter so find your receipt and take it back if necessary.

Well the little luck that I have.
It's still under warranty so I have to bring it back to the dealer.
I would try the after market one and take off that plastic tensioner pulley .
But I got laid off from work.
So money is tight.

Thanks everybody,

Chris G.

Well I just replaced the Belt Tensioner.
It's not moving very much just alittle.
But the AC compressor is making a noise like a pice of paper in a fan.
So I think the compressor is getting bad.
The jerk that put my engine in replaced the compressor.
I told him I want a new GM.
And I think he put a remanufactured one.
And of corse he broke alot of stuff because he did not know what he was doing.
This is just an on going nightmare that just won't end.
Now I have to take the car Back but to a diffrent location.
And camp out side the bay that the car is in to make sure they don't break anything and they pick it up right too.
They broke my pasanger side fender when the put the engine.
If I had the AC pump I would do it my self.

Re: Belt Tensioner help.

Sorry for your luck. Yeah, it did not sound like a tensioner problem from the beginning.

My orignal belt tensioner shot the bell pulley out from under the car one day. I replaced it with a GM replacement and it been fine since.
