best cam for a non track street LT1
i know about the search, ive been reading alot of the threads on cam swaps etc. but they all seem to be after a common purpose, max hp and drag times. the car im building right now is after a different thing. daily driven, driveability, reasonable mileage, auto x type car. i do plan on having fun at the drag strip. thats what i love, and i got my 79 as a purpose built drag car. but for this car im looking for something different. just wondering what are some suggestions on the cam choice for what im looking for. car is a 95 LT1 swap, LT headers, 1.6rr 52mm tb, A4, stock heads with a port match and cleanup. car is a full tubular suspension car, with ls1 brakes etc, not a drag car. it will be a DD and i dont want TOO much of a rough idle, and im not looking for a 10mpg car either. whats a good balance for a lightly modded LT1? im looking for low end power up to a reasonable peak, dont want to rev the thing sky high to make it go. from what ive read cc305 seems like a solid choice, ive heard suggestions all over though, one person told me the 847 would be what i want, but im skeptical what are some of the spec differences between them? driveability is #1 concern here. thanks

Whoever told you the 847 is what your looking for is crazy.. Thats one of the largest aftermarket cams for LT1's right now..
I think the cc503 sounds good, but if you want a great cam that will perform where you want it and idle how you would like then i suggest a custom cam.. I know Brett Bauer can make some crazy cams that act like stock just driving around, but turn into a screaming demon once you put the go fast pedal to the floor.

Crane 227: 210/224 on 112. lift 511/552 w/1.6RRs. Basically an RV cam providing good low-end TQ, stock-like idle, decent fuel economy OR something with those specs, e.g., 216/226 or thereabouts. JMHO

Comp Cam's XE224/230 has my vote. It doesn't like to pull much after 6000-6200. My buddy had this cam on stock heads and put down 340 rwhp through his M6 car. It drives very nicely especially with stock gearing. His name is turbo_z and he has a few posts about his cam including, dyno results, and sound clips.

Call Crower, they did a custom grind for me and they said they would put it in their"lineup" after it worked so well for me. If memory serves it was a 220/224@.050, 550/565 or so on a 112......great cam. My 3650 lb six speed car ran 90 mph in the 1/8 mile with ported heads and supporting bolt ons.

I have just recently got my latest L98 TPI motor going and I'm in the process of breaking it in. It has the Comp Cams XFI268HR13 cam. The cam doctor showed it to actually have 220.7 degrees on the intake instead of the advertised 218. I understand that this is normal for Comp Cams to underate their cams.
Anyways I'm just amazed at the driveability. It is virtually like a stock cam. It idles very nicely at 750rpm and has hardly any lope. Power wise my tires cry uncle. No traction at all in 1st gear on the street tires when you nail it. It will break loose in 2nd gear with the pedal to the metal. It deffenitely has more power than my old combo which I ran a 12.71 and 107.85 at the track with the A4. Looking for low 12's this time around. With the next two upgrades I will be looking for a 11.99 time slip.
One more thing it is pulling 15 inches of vacuum at idle. That is good for all the power accessories. I could not be happier.

Either the LPE 211/219 .533/.560" or the 219/219 .560/.560 both on 112 lsa...I ran the 211/219 for years in my 383 and it was a fantastic little cam...Lingenfleter was the premier builder for max power AND drivability...I got 24 mpg with that cam and it only had a wee bit of lope...Both would be great imho...

Sounds like a perfect candidate for the LE1.
