Re: Best Cam for Stock LT1

for a stock motor there a couple really good choices
first off the LT4 hot cam kit is a very good value its not crazy in size or lift makes descent power and has a descent lope to it
plus it comes with all the extras youll need to put it in plus it will run alright on a stock tune not stellar but it will get it done
if you wanna buy everything seperatley and or want something BIGger than the hot cam
The CC306 is also a really good choice it has alot of exhaust suration which these engines love and a good amount of lift its really lopey and it def will need a computer tune
but you will also make significantley more power

Comp cams also A series of cams called the Extreme energy fuel injection cams you can find them at summit they have alot of lift and crazy ramp rates so they should make some descent power while also keeping the car fairly driveable

with those your also gonna want some new valve springs (of course) the comp cames beehives cc-26918-16 they are good to .600" of lift and work on stock heads
so in a nut shell there are some of your best choices for a stock motor but if you start doing the swap make sure you do it clean and check your cam bearings after you yank the cam just to make sure they are still good
really 130k aint that much i know alot of people are afraid they will spin abearing if they do a swap at a high mileage but keep it clean and you should be alright
also think about throwing new lifters and my personal recommendation a high volume high pressure oil pump in there just as a precaution to spinning the motor higher with the new cam

with that many miles I would stick to a smaller grind so you don't rev the motor too high. The hotcam or cc305 is the biggest I would go.

Its allways a gamble camming a car, i run mine to 6800 and trap 114 on the stock heads and lower end with 198k miles on it. I've also seen people spin bearings with under 100k on the hotcam as well. Depends how well the car was taken care of and how clean the install is. I know i'm on borrowed time but there are no signs of quiting yet.

A shelf cam like the Hotcam or Comp305 will do the trick. As mentioned above, a search will pull up some good info. as well. There are several different manufacturers and grinds on the market right.
