Re: best catback

GMMG without a doubt, I think it even sounds better than true duals.

Re: best catback

if you have the money to consider those two systems....than GMMG hands down!!

borla is an overpriced cutout basically...why pay so much when 95% of the time people run the cutout open. kindda pointless to have a big $$ stainles muffler and not use it

another BADASS system to check out would be the Corsa or B&B triflow. similar price as the GMMG and a really nice sound and look.

Re: best catback

if u want loud, go borla. its deffinately the loudest. has the most distinct sound too. heard gmmc on an ls1 with longtubes, and my catback was louder before i had headers..
can't beat those tips either, i'm not saying it makes u fast, but look at the big boys, they run borla.

Re: best catback

Another vote for Borla. I think that putting an adjustible QTP cut out where the manual plate placement goes would be a pretty sweet set-up. I've been running into situations lately where being inconspicuous is worth a mint. The Borla with the closed plate is definitely quiet and with one of the various open plates, it's loud and aggressive.

Perhaps a big cam helps in that regard.

Re: best catback

The GMMG will sound very good, but keep in mind that it's also loud. Just another option if you want to keep the sound level a little lower is the Hooker catback. I don't care how much other systems cost, I love the sound of the Hooker catback. One drawback is that it's aluminized tubing instead of stainless if that is a concern. More $$$ does not always = better sound. Just look at the Borla and how people complain about the rasp once they got to headers. It's all opinion though really. Some people love some catbacks while others don't.

Re: best catback

Ahhh...A what cat-back sounds the best thread...

Go with what sounds the best to YOU my friend.

With that said though, I've heard every Borla set-up (manifolds, headers, cats/no cats, engine work, etc.) imaginable and I currently run the GMMG with MAC headers + a highflow cat on my LT1.

To me personally, the Borla just sounds kinda "funny." I'll agree it does sound very distinct, but it doesn't sound deep or musclecarish at all to me either. With headers, cats/no cats, & engine work, it is the worst sound I've ever heard on any LT1/LS1 car ever (Loudmouth close behind). For those who run that set-up, chill out guys! Just my opinion!

My car with the GMMG & headers/cat is actually very tame at idle and cruise (no drone whatsoever)...And nowhere near as loud at WOT as my LS1 with the same GMMG system (that car has longtubes + two highflow cats though). But overall, it is a very clean rumble with the deepest tone I've heard yet at WOT on these motors.

But go with what you want,

Mike
