i have a 383 lt1 in my a4 ta. it has stock 3.23's in it now. should i go with 3.73, 3.42, or keep 3.23. i used to hit 150mph with a cai, catback, and crane cam hi6s in the stock lt1. i dont want my top speed to suffer and i want better acceleration. what would you guys recommend? brand?

from what I understand is with the stock drive shaf and even 3.42 gears, the drive shaft is almost at its maximum turning speed
a aluminum or carbon fiber shaft would probly be a good idea if top speed were a consideration with low gears I would think

Happy with my 3.73 GM gears. Youll top out at ~166mph at 5900-6100 rpm in 4th

3.73's. I was having fun the other day on the highway. And the gears make the car, just pull so much faster. I know you like your topspeed. But honestly man how often do you go 150? I bet you 0-60 or 0-100 a whole lot more man. And 3.73's really make that alot of fun. You will find, that you pull so much harder out the whole.

is that what you maxed out at with those gears or are you guessing thats what it would be?

Thats what your speed will be, given that rpm, the 4th gear trans ratio, and a 3.73 rear end ratio, with a 275/40/17 tire.

someone told me that i should forget about gears for now and start saving up for a new rear end. you think the stock rear will last? i have a 3000 stall. if i do install gears, what else should i isntall (zexel torsen, girdle)?
