Which is the best ignition system?

I am having a hard time trying to pick out an ignition system for my LT1. I had it set on the new Crane ignition, but I knew that the MSD ignition has never dissapointed, now I just got the new summit mag and they have a Mallory ignition, the same brand that came on the 69 Yenko. So now I am really unsure. Could you please give me any advise you can. Thanx for your imput!

I have a used Accel 300+ ignition system, less coil. If you are interested shoot me an e-mail.

If you're not looking for special features to control future mods (nitrous, blower), then a MSD 6AL is probably the best bang for the buck. The "L" provides a rev limiter (cuts spark) which is safer than the stock PCM rev limiter (cuts fuel). Most of the suppliers of the digital ignition systems (MSD, Crane) have a lot of failures so I believe the circuits are not as durable as the older analog systems. The digital boxes are a must if you need all of the features. I run a Crane box as that's what came with my Vortech blower...it's be replaced (warranty) once. I ran a MSD 6AL for about 50K miles before the blower install that with no issues.

If your staying NA then I would just use the stock ignition system. Do a search. I was thinking about that when I did my motor a couple months ago and through research found it wasnt worth it.

If you are staying stock there is really no need to upgrade your ignition system. But if you are I can say my MSD 6AL has worked great for years. And if you look under the "hood" of most of the racers they run MSD stuff, also is you look at the GM performance parts stuff they sell is just rebadged MSD stuff. Also look at the "upgraded" ignition stuff that Vortech sends with their kits and its MSD, so with all that my 2 cents goes with MSD stuff.

I had a Crane Fireball HI-6 and I though it sucked...lasted about a year. Now I have a Accel 300+ and I love it.

Dude I LOVE my Digital 6. I swear ive had them all. I had the Crane Fireball with timing retard, then I switched to the digital 7 box. Which was a WAY NICE BOX, but it had tooo many features that I didn't use, like the computer software that lets you retard and advance seprate cyl's etc. So now I switched to the digital 6 box and couldn't be happier... It has SOO many nice features such as the Start Retard, WOT Retard, Stage Limiter, Rev Limiter, it's Digital...

Im also using the Blaster HVC Coil that is designed specifically for the digital 6 box.. Both are really nice products and I haven't had ANY problems or complaints

I've had no problems with a MSD 6AL and a Nology Coil.
I am anxious to try the digital 6 box with a nology coil this time.

I am definatly going for a naturally aspirated 10 second car, for now, I will be in the 12's by spring. I want an ignition system to upgrade from stock. Who would want a stock ignition when there are systems like MSD, Crane, and Mallory. Which coil out there is the best??

I ran a MSD coil for about 10K miles and it failed. Switched to a Crane coil and no issues for 25K miles.

Had freinds w/ crane fire ball and thats what it did. MSD is really good. John Lingenfelter swears by the accel 300+ for the 93-97 LT1. He would know better, But sad to say he died on chrismas. The guy known his ****! R.I.P.
