Just retorque after awhile, you should be fine.

And yes, the bead should extend up a little on the intake gaskets.

Why not? It takes the goo off real well. Not like I could take off any metal with a little fine paper.

Why not? My machine shop recommended it! Aren't there some circumstances where it should be used?

You do not need to let the car sit 24 hours for cure time. Put it back together and drive it..
But the goo's not dry! Why shouldn't I let it dry first?

Are you makin' this stuff up?

as every one can see there is many opinions on this. I know some shops (cheap shops) use house hold clear silicone on everything and gets away with it though I would not ever use clear silicone on a engine

Don't be too sure of that. Of course fine sandpaper can take metal off the surface. If it didn't then what would it's use be? You are taking a great chance of getting metal particles on the bearing surfaces. I'd much rather take the extra time using a puddy knife than sand paper.

If you use good sealant the cure time is well within the time it takes to put the car back together..

What do you actually think every job I worked on at the dealer or everyoen else at shops has to sit on the lift for 24 hours before I could start it up and drive it?? Or even 2 hours for that matter? Believe what you want on this. It is simply not the case.

As far as sandpaper. The only time I can think of a machine shop saying use sandpaper is if the block is bare and you are prepping for a rebuild. If it is not this instance, then you are completely crazy using sandpaper on a engine in the car.. it has the same effect of using the scotchbrite pads on the engine surfaces.. In my opinion it is foolish to use sandpaper. on anything internal to the engine. Once again believe what you want.

sealant on the intake gaskets?? Once again not needed at all. You have serious deck issues if you need sealant on the intake gaskets. If you look at the stockers, they will seal just fine, and they are a great design.
