best stall for a cc305??

I had a midwest converter, restalled several times before I got tired of it and sold it. It didn't drive anywhere near stock, but that's sujective from person to person. Just like the people who think a GM847 or CC306 on a stock motor is fine for a daily driver, just not for me. Same goes for the converter.
Oh well. I think we've both made our points.

If the converter is a lockup , you will have your gas mileage you will never have a good launch with out a 3000-3600 stall . You will have to learn the converter on the street (drive it easy or nail it ) part throttle doesn't feel good unless you keep the converter loaded. I wouldn't use anything less than a 3000 on the street. LF

you realize you can change the mph the converter locks up to compensate for the larger stall. a crap 2500 12 inch converter is going to make just as much heat as a quality 3500 9.5 in converter. i use to have a 9.5 inch 4000 stall and 3.23 gears and it was fine to drive around in. i don't see the issue. it was no worse driving around then then 2300 stall boat anchor that was previously in the car. and the only reason i bought the 2300 is cause i didn't have a converter at the time and it was cheap. its your car and the improper combination of parts is what makes for a turd.. if you want good gas mileage buy a prius.

I can see how people hate big stall converters if they only have experience with low quality ones. I was scared to get one at all because I rode in a car with a 3000 stall and it wouldn't start moving until almost 3000 RPM's it was annoying. Going down the road coasting you would have to rev it up to 3000 again before it would engage. Now that I have a quality converter I wish I started with a 3600. But because it is a quality one I can have it re-stalled fairly inexpensive. There is a lot more math and science to converters than most know about. Do some research and listen to people that have been their done that. I'm glad I did. A converter is not something you want to skimp on.
