I checked out a lot of the kits and ended up just going with the Eagle crank, H-beams and SRP pistons. I heard a lot of the kits needed to be rebalanced and would been just as expensive as the set-up I went with.

Best in what way? You looking for a budget rebuild, an all out race motor, or what? Depending on your goals, you could do fine with a cast crank, hypereutectic pistons, and stock rods. Certainly less than ~$1,000 in parts. Or, you could get billet stuff and spend over $4K or even more. In any case, the block will need to be clearanced and bored at the minimum.

If you post some more details about your goals and budget, you will get some more useful information. FWIW, unless you also do head work and cam/valvetrain upgrades you won't gian much hp, though you probably know this already.
