i would assume they come out from the bottom. might be easiest to unbolt them from the top, then go under and take them out

If you are asking about the LT1 in a Camaro, I've pulled them out the top and bottom.

Remove #3 and #5 spark plugs, pull out the top..... Remove dipstick tube for passenger side.

Re: Best way to take out exhaust manilfold

Remove the spark plugs and it will come out the bottom. The problem we ran into when trying to take them out the top is that the three-bolt flange got stuck between the block and the steering shaft. I ended up unbolting the shaft afterwards since we're doing longtubes, so I may have been able to come out the top with it.

Re: Best way to take out exhaust manilfold

I took em both out the top... Just had to take out #3 and 5 plugs, lift it up and forward a little, then tilt the back/flange down where the plugs were and pull it out. Just had to remove the dipstick tube for the passenger side to lift out the top.

Re: Best way to take out exhaust manilfold

I caught hell with mine as my 96 car had four catts. I pulled all the plugs, dipstick, starter, steering linkage, broke the Temp sensor . Used a sawzaw, wrenches with extensions, etc. Was HELL . But all was necessary as I installed Long tubes and new plugs/wires after.

Took two days, a big hammer, a sawzaw and an act of god. Recommend not buying headers with the 02 hook-ups but I thought I needed them for emissions. Boy was I wrong .

Your 96 had four cats? Why? Where?

You need the O2 sensors on the headers to allow the PCM to control the A/F ratio in closed loop. If you delete the O2 sensors, you need an open loop tune.

And, finally.... Sawzall (copyright by Milwaukee tools)

Wish I had pics but one was in the driver side tucked up inside by the manifold, other in the normal location by the passenger side exhaust....Maybe 2 ? Hell, I don't remember all I know is it SUCKED . Then installing with EGR fittings on the [EDIT] headers that I didn't have to have then installing the egr hose to header gasket using a long hemo stat :mad[EDIT]

EGR Pacesetter headers for sale. Tylenol, midol, and a 5th of hooch comes with purchase.
