For handhelds a lot of guys are having good luck with the Innovate LM-1. If you plan to install only in your car the Dynojet Wide Band Commander is pretty tough to beat.

Well, the way the Innovate system ships, it comes with a tailpipe adapter to where it's a clean and quick install, you put the probe in the tailpipe (THAT just did NOT sound right) and off you go. It's highly portable, can be used on any car, and is an outstanding item for helping with tuning.

The Dynojet WBC on the other hand requires the welding of a bung into the exhaust pipe, and the installation of the WB O2 sensor just like the cars narrow band O2 sensors. Then you have to route the power lead for the WB O2, and route all those wires to where the brains of the WBC are located. The WBC also has the option of a 2 1/16 gauge for pod mounting (which I REALLY like). It's meant for installation in one car and not to be portable.

As sensors vary, due to production tolerances, the high end meters, like the Horriba, which is an analog meter, provide a sensor calibration file for each individual sensor at many different lambda points. This is a requirement of analog technology, if accuracy is the goal. This requirement of an accurate (analog) sensor is very labor/time intensive. This is what commands the high price of such (analog) WB sensor meters. With recent digital technology, this high cost requirement, is no longer necessary. The result is a WB sensor/meter that is AS accurate as high end old school analog technology, at a SUBSTANTIAL lower price.

It is no longer necessary to spend thousands for accuracy, but something to the tune of under $500.

Does the Dynojet include data logging?

My friend Bob Kennedy sells the LM1 www.kennedysdynotune.com and I am a big fan of the unit.

Check out the wide band controller and "O2 Alert" systems from Altronics.

Appears to be another brand (of many) with analog technology, Fred.

"Accurate to 0.1 AFR "
Sure, and how many, that actually purchase the product, will actually compare/check it's accuracy, IN THE RANGE OF AFR GENERALLY USED. I state that because, fact is, it (sensor, theirs or any other brand) should/will read accurate in 'free air' and at stoich. That would be their disclaimer or proof that meter is accurate. Thus proves nothing, in the way of accuracy.

Re: Best wide band w/ data reporting?

With the data logging unit, is there no need for a a/f ratio gauge?
Or do i check a few a few runs with the handheld/datalogging unit and then if everything is ok, quit looking, or check periodically when changes are made??

IMO an A/F meter is unnecessary for the car. After ya tune it it won't need changing. Let the tune up/dyno people buy the expensive guages. Learn how to read the plugs and ya will be OK.
If it was dyno tuned dead nuts it stays like the chip has it set so why ride around with a $4-500 guage in the car unless ya want to impress.
If ya were doing 3-4 tune up's a month it would pay to have one but ya need to have a lot of other expensive equipment to go along with it to tune and burn the chip or computer.

Does the same logic apply to vacuum and fuel pressure?
I would love to go gaugeless, all the girls would look.
