Re: best year lt1 to mod?

What are you looking to spend? Do LS1's still cost loads more to mod then the LT1s. I know they did when I had my LT1. LT1s (93-94) single cat, obd1. 95+ Dual cats obd2. 1993 LT1 = speed density (no MAF).

I'd say 93 or 94. Now if you're talking LT1 vs. LS1...

Only about 10 percent of the 95s are dual cat cars, I'd vote for an OBD 1 95.

Re: best year lt1 to mod?

well, seems like most people llike the 95 as the best year.
Single cat Car, Still Obd-1, and has the vented opti.

i drive a 94 and would rather have a 95 IMO....

Exactly. Do not buy a 93. They are speed density and are different that all the others. Usually 93 parts only fit 93 cars. Don't know why someone said 93.

Sorry if it seemed like I was listing the 93 as one of the best years to mod. I wasnt I was just listing off what had what so he could make his decision.

I got the OBD1 95' pretty good car. 96-97s come with 10 more HP though.

True, they come with 10 more HP, but that's because they are dual cat cars. Which is insignificant if you are planning on modding it anyway. (ie. Headders).

You can usually tweak about 10 more HP out of an OBD I tune because it's a less intrusive diagnostic system.

Re: best year lt1 to mod?

Just look for the best deal you can, every year is slightly different, but not enough to say "buy this year". Just remember that the later models will probably be more reliable, and the earlier models will be easier to tune.

That said, I always vote for 95 (vented opti + obd1) or 97 (new interior).

Re: best year lt1 to mod?

I'd say 95-97 as they are pretty much the same. I think the cam changed a little in 96. The OBDII computer is easily swapped for a OBDI. I did that in my 96 WS6 after the cam change since nobody had started programming OBDII back then. Better coil and wires in the OBDII cars also.

Re: best year lt1 to mod?

I'd probably buy either a 95 or (I'm biased) a 97.

97 has the newer interior which IMO looks better than 96 and below (I had a 96 before also).

both 95 and 97 will have the vented opti advantage as well.

the whole OBD2 thing really isn't that big a deal, just programming it is more expensive.

Re: best year lt1 to mod?

I would say the '94/'95 and the '96/'97 LT1's both have some positives and negatives.

I would think you'd want something like an OBD1 computer with the OBDII vented opti/timing set. That would be a good set to start with.
