better hdlts. for 93-97 Firebirds

There was a post a while back from someone looking for better lighting for 93-97 Firebirds. I posted about the Sylvania Silverstar hdlts and the fact that I installed a set of silverstar bulbs in my dd (Nissan Sentra) and was impressed with the lighting they offered.

I decided to get a set of silverstars for my Formula. I got them a month ago and put them in 2 weeks ago. My observations:

These lights rock!!!! I took the car out that night after installing them and could instantly tell there was a dramatic difference in how the light pattern is distributed on the silverstars vs. the stk. hdlt units. Road signs were lit up farther up the road than before and shining the hdlts. towards a wall you can see the sharp cutoff of the light as compared to the regular hdlts.

The lights before basically lit up the ground about 15-20 ft. in frt. of the car, this was where the majority of the light was. With the silverstars, the same area is lit up also but the light was also directed up and to the right of the vehicle. You can really see the signs ahead lighting up as the car moves on its suspension while driving. Keep in mind I never adjusted the hdlts at all so the aim was still OE GM, even though more light is directed up vs. the regular hdlts. oncoming traffic are not blinded at all.

If you want better lighting for your 93-97 Firebird, definitely consider these hdlts, they work.

part #4666ST, check them out here:

The link to the website has a chart at the bottom with all the silverstar hdlt. part #'s available. They also have an online store you can buy directly if you want, that link is here:

You might try your local jobber as they may sell cheaper than online direct from silvania.

Up here where I am, they listed for around $68 Can. each, I got them for $45 each Can. Yeah they are kinda pricey but you pay for advancements in technology. They are worth the price after you see how much better they are over the stockers. Good luck!!!

link didn't work

that link to the online store doesn't seem to work, so you will have to get there yourself.

From the silvania website I posted on the first thread, look to the right and you'll find some links. Look for "silvania online performance shop" and from there follow the instructions to order the hdlts if you wish.

unfortunately, the answer is no. When I was considering getting these lights for the Formula, I also checked the availability of them for 93-97 Camaros but they don't list an application for them. They do make the bulbs for the LS1 Camaros but for the LS1 firebirds they get the same deal as the 93-97 Camaros, no application for them at all.

While I'm sure the Silverstars help some, I'd just go to the H4 conversion, as a matter of fact I did. Lighting pattern a output is WAY better than stock and will not bling oncoming drivers since it has a very sharp vertical cutoff to the beam pattern on low beams. http://www.danielsternlighting.com/ is where I got mine, but you can find them a few other places on the web too. Total cost should run a little over $100. I have not compared them myself, but I've heard from quite a few sources that these are still way better than the Sivlerstars too, as the biggest problem lies in the beam pattern of US sealed beam units.

if I had a Camaro I would go strait to a Piaa or similar head light conversion. I replaced my original head lights a few years ago. Eventually I'm going to need to get ne fog lamps, maybe then I'll change the head lamps.

I used:
60/55W Osram Super High Efficiency Plus 50: $18/ea
initialy, but I've since gone to some 100/90W bulbs. The 60/55 bulbs are great, but I live out in the country and needed the most light I could get. For city/suburban use I'd recommned staying with the 60/55, which will be more than enough. As a matter of fact, if you go with the H4 conversion, I'll sell you my 60/55 bulbs for $10 shipped.

I didn't do the foglight conversion as I don't have foglights.

I've got the E-code housings with H4 90/110W bulbs and those are fairly good...

Although my new setup will blow them outta the water... I've got it 1/2 modeled up in Pro/E and the parts sitting here on my desk at work...

Lazy-eye E-code Hella Bi-Xenon HID Projectors.
