For me to show full on the dipstick when I change my oil, I need to add a little bit over 5 quarts, probably 5.2 quarts I would say. I've put in as much as 5.5 though. Considering the fact that a little bit of oil will always remain in your engine when you change your oil (some is stuck in the oil pump and surrounding area, some in the heads, etc.) I would say the TOTAL oil capacity is probably almost 6 quarts.
Running the bigger filter only adds about an extra 1/4 of a quart capacity, but every little bit counts.

I still prefer a high flow filter over a super low micron filter though. With the large clearances in the LT1, you don't need a filter that takes out super small stuff, as anything below 20 microns or so will pass through your engine without causing much if any wear.

I used a long style filter on my car, once. I hit a big bump one time and scratched the hell out of the bottom of the filter. I am lucky it never tore the filter off or put a hole in it.
I have an oil cooler still, so that's probably why it hung down too low.

I dunno what you guys are talking about, I use the 1 qt filter with a cooler thats about 1/2 thicker than the stock one and it sits about level with the bottom of the k member. Mabye if my car was lowerd it would be a concern.

Anyone ever try one of those clamp on oil coolers? just curious if anyone tested them. They wrap complately around the filter and are basicly a big alumnium heat sink....synk....sync.... whatever...

Yes, those filters look good on paper. I bought a couple of the 1 Qt. size. I was using the UPF 1218 synthetic media filter, after they discontinued the PF35L. But the logic of limiting the filtration to something larger than 10 microns seems to make sense, so I'll try the Moroso filter.

I use the long WIX version. Its slightly lower than my Hooker LTs but not lower than the flange.
I use to put 1/2 quart extra for my 383.
I'm upto one extra quart now with the longer filter.

Where do you get them, and how much $$? I love the idea of being able to run even more oil in the system!
