Re: bigger throttle body

I don't see how there WOULDN'T be a gain from it. More air into the motor = more power, simple as that. People may say you don't gain anything on a stock motor, but that's like saying headers are useless and the stock airbox flows fine.

Re: bigger throttle body

if your throttle body is causing a restriction in your intake, then yes a larger one would help. but your intake system will only function as well as its most restrictive link. i'd take my time before buying a new TB and see if there was a more effective way to spend your money.

Re: bigger throttle body

so why dont we run 15mm spark plug wires and 3" primaries on our headers too maybe a 5" deisel truck catback on top of that for more flow. More is always better right??? Well i guess not always huh???

Yeah sure, and I'll have some 3" stainless valves put in that won't fit too. Gonna be a great combo.

Re: bigger throttle body

I've got a 4" mufflex muffler sitting in my garage waiting to go on the TA. Is that big enough?

Honestly, 48mm is fine for a street driven small block. Heck, GM uses a stock 48mm on their 502 Ram Jet motors and it makes 500 hp. Granted it will make more with a bigger TB.

If you decide to get a new one, remember to have your line pressures increased or you'll be buying a new transmission to go with your new TB.

Re: bigger throttle body

Can you explain why the line pressure needs to be increased? Also, is this only with aftermarket ones or stock bored TB's too?

Just curious, thanks

Re: bigger throttle body

I've mostly heard of it happenning with aftermarket units, though it may apply to bored stockers as well. It has something to do with the way the computer reads the sensors and tells the tranny what to do. Alot of people have added a bigger TB and then burnt up their A4s shortly thereafter. If you want a technical explanation, try e-mailing Ion (tuner@madz28.com).

Re: bigger throttle body

opinions always vary on this kind of stuff... IF you need it or not... I still say go for it. These cars are all about power... If I wanted to sit back and ponder my vehicles efficiency I would of brought a Volkswagon or something. Slap it on and go. I'm with the old school method of modding this new age let's mesure this crap takes the fun out of things. Screw a pentium chip... I measure my fun at the track.

Re: bigger throttle body

I'm guessing that you don't have the tranny prob with a M6 :P

Re: bigger throttle body

Nope, no trans problems with the T56 and the Holley TB, other than a dangerously anorexic wallet.
