Biggest Cam with stock 4L60E(A4)transmission?
Hey guys I just rebuilt my 1995 Z and I put the comp cams XFI 07-466-8 cam in it. The specs are 218/224 .570 .565 on a 113. I have an auto trans and a stock converter. I was wondering how much bigger(meaning duration, lsa, etc) I might have been able to have gone without killing the joy of everyday driving or going with a bigger converter. It is an awesome daily driver now and from what I was told by many, this was just about the limit on a cam for the stock converter. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks

Believe me, you will enjoy your car even more with a larger converter. A 2800 stall will hardly kill your everyday driveability. It took me a few years to be convinced to install a stall in my '94. After I did, I felt like a fool for not doing it sooner. If you can afford it, do it. You'll hate yourself afterwards if you don't get one.
I'm sorry I can't recommend a cam for you that would work with a stock converter. I'm sure alot of the lt1 guys on here can though. Good luck.

My application is a little different but I went to a ZZ4 cam 208/221 and it did little for me till I gave it a stall then it woke up in a BIG way.
Today I try to tell everyone do the stall first unless the cam is part of a repair then might as well do it while convinient but do not expect to gain much till you get the stall.
When I put a 2800 stall in my Caprice it was my ONLY car to the tune of over 20K a year in all weather conditions and the wife even enjoyed driving it. I am glad I got over my fear of stall, get a ride in a few cars with quality stalls and you will too.

I have the same XFI cam in my moded L98 with a Yank SS3600 Torque converter. My problem now is that I now roast the tires in 1st gear and a good portion of 2nd gear. So I would get something a little smaller. Maybe in the 2800 to 3200 range.
1st gear in my car is useless with anything approaching WOT throttle. I tried to do some data logging last Sunday at my usual spots but the tires were spinning so bad at WOT I had to call it quits and go home. I have to find some stickier tires for the rear.

I ran the 503 on my stock converter last summer. The only complaint I really had was it would try to creap from a stop, so extra pressure to the brake pedal was required. Other than that I really enjoyed it.
Since I am converting to a M6 this winter, the stall issure is no longer relevant

I think so far people have given you some pretty good advice. Without going to a quality converter in the 2800 to 3600 range I wouldn't bother with a larger cam. If you do plan on something bigger go with the 3600 stall, just make sure you combine this with some 3.73 gears. This helps get the car moving without an excessive amount of rpm.

Yeah Ihave 3.73's. I was just wondering everyone's thoughts/expierences with this cam or larger cams. I love how it drives and its awesome on the street. I just wanted to be sure I didn't leave "anything on the table". I too have to push the brake pedal a little harder, but the car idles around 875-900 in gear so that has something to do with it also. Thanks guys

I had stock stall/tranny with my 236/242, 114 LSA, .597/.585 cam and 3.23 gears, only idle was bad because of no brakes and a 1500-1700rpm surge cause the convertor would lock there cruising.
I got a 3k stall and hated it with my gearing, would take 3k rpms to get the car rolling on normal driving....had it restalled to 2400 and still hated it...now I have a 2200 and still don't like it for daily driving, works very well at the track or for quick take offs, but daily driving it sux....but then my GN has a 3k stall and you could hardly tell it.....not sure what the issue is with the TA..maybe the tranny was not built correctly, but I want the stock feel back.
