24x/25x on a 110/106 with LE1.5 heads. The general feedback I've got from this is that the cam is too big for a 350 and needs to be spun past the PCM range. My track time reflect this very though process, but I have found a issue with the delteq/MDS DIS-4 combo above 5200rpms. I'm waiting to get back to the track to find out if its time for a smaller cam.

Well looks like the cc503 is taking the lead. The high RPMs of the cc306 and my stock bottom end are a gamble. Any cc306ers spinning there stock bottom ends 6350+ without problems?

I do. I did rebuild it though.


Auto, shifting at 6500 rev limiter set at 6700........hit MANY times.

My friend has a 306 on stock heads/bottom end and the power starts falling pretty sharp past 6300..., he made 350/351, I think the torque may have been higher.

My PCM is currently set to shift at 6200 rpm. If you port the heads, the rpm could be a couple hundred higher.

As far as fuel economy, the reason it is lower could be because of the grind. When I requested the cam, I gave the shop who was rebuilding my engine the grind number 07-503-8, but what was instead installed by the shop was 08-503-8. The valve timing is identical, both are roller cams and the lift is the same. The car runs like a raped ape (no complaints there), just wasn't certain why COMP would have two different part numbers for an identical grind?

I have a LE2 cam I am trying to sell, that would work for you it is a BRE cam.

this is all pointless until you figure out if you want a stall converter and find the range you will be running it in aka RPM's.

if you get a stall converter upgrade the valvetrain, timing chain, bearings, and madz28 tune you could do the cc306 with stock heads. This is the nastiest cam you would benifit from using stock heads.

with that said i didn't say the best cam or cam for the best et's. that is debatable. as for best daily driver its preference. that is just the answer to the question the thread was started with.

You really have to look at matching the cam to the converter, to your gears to get everything right...I'm a big fan of smaller cams. Big cams with high rpm power bands are useless without bigger stalls and gears...I have a custom 226/234 from Joe Overton and its just sick at the track and great on the street...I run right with and sometimes around those with wayyy bigger cams...Like someone said earlier bigger aint always better...

My neighbor has a 503 on a 110 lsa and he runs 12.50s at 113 full weight M6 car with LPE heads on slippery street tires...Its a nice smaller cam and it sounds pretty nice, too....

Very true, and lowering the range of the powerband is a heck of a lot easier on parts.

I have had 2 cams in my motor in its 12 years of flawless performance...An LPE 211/219 and the Joe O. grind...While I have to credit LPE with an anvil of a short block, I've gotta think that only going to 6300 rpm has helped with durability, too...
