block size/weight and how to ship it?
buying a bare LT1 block.
He can put it on a pallet and ship from a dock at work.
It can come to a dock at my work.
Once I get the L x W x H - ? lbs ?
what is the "class code" for a block?
Anyone work with a trucking company? Best rates?
from Ga to Ct
thanks for any tips -

You don't need to know class code and you don't usually need to know dimensions. Weight is approx. 150 LBS. Call SEF or Wilson or your choice of ?. MG there must be a few hundred in the phone book. Just tell them you have a pallet weight 150#s that has to go to such and such. Ask the price move on to the next one.
Your making this far harder than it has to be.

Speedy: it's close to 200lbs (actually 190). They will also include the weight of the pallet. The other stuff, I don't know except that it's always more expensive to ship via common carrier than it seems like it should be. We are spoiled by UPS/FedEx/DHL. The common carriers are a vestige of the way things worked prior to the era of "deregulation" initiated by Ronald Reagan. The price structure is Byzantine and is created largely by the government.
If there are any big engine builders in your area, you could call them and ask how they ship.
Good luck.

thanks guys
I've shipped freight before - I'm just trying to compare rates online = easy.
The only variables I could not honestly plug in to calculate cost is weight of item and class code. It starts at 50 and goes up to 500 as a code.
At 50 - the cost is ~ $145. At 500 class code it is $ 1,250. - so I need to know in order to calculate freight cost on an internet site.
Speedy: yes, I will need the dimensions! What if my 150 lb item was 38' long and 5' wide? I'd fill the truck! They generallly base the rate by how much cubic space I'm using of the container and make sure it doesn't weigh enough to limit the capacity..
I'll call a freight company and ask the code for an engine block and for a quote
