ls1 guys make ducts from the foglite holes to the lid and have picked up another 3 tenths and 3 mph with thtat added to it...you rock your lt1 cold air if you think that long intake with 2 bends and a crimped area by the abs block...ill do my short straight ls1 lid

why does lloyd reccomend a ls1 lid setup then?
no need for the attitude, she was just trying to help you, you want to waste your time go right ahead but dont forget weather and track conditions could have added to your time and mph change.

and my intake, as well as all other aftermarket ones, has no sharp bends or crimped area

I think you're smoking crack if you think little ducts from the foglight holes are going to add 3 tenth and 3mph to somebody's track times. 0.3 mph maybe.

While I do think it's possible that the LS1 lid setup is slightly more efficient, I doubt a good LT1-style cold air configuration (like Roxy's posted above) with a decent filter on it that hasn't been completely soaked five times over with K&N oil will be noticeably worse.

Hey Daniel... can that LS1 lid mod be done under our stock hood? How much does it take to gather the parts for the swap? I might sell off my elbow and CAI and do the swap with you. That way you have multiple dynos from two cars saying the same thing. I have a ported stock 52mm TB you can throw on your car to test on the dyno to see if you want to go 52 or 58.

In my experience adding a larger TB on these cars is almost like adding more pluemn volume which is desperately needed. Doing the same thing on a carb setup will hurt performance because you are dealing more with fuel in suspension and you don't want to lose velocity or you'll lose responsiveness and fuel will drop out. On a fuel injected setup there is no such thing as over-carbing a setup.

meangreen....you can do it under a stock hood but you need to stop by and i can show you what it takes...you need a non ws6/firehawk radiator support(camaro one oor regulat trans am) should work fine...you have to slightly modify it and get a aftermarket lid...
personally if you dont mind use a piece of sheetmetal...its much easier to make fit....i used the ls1 radiator holder because it looks way better...but its requires much more effort...

btw if youve got taht off your car i can prolly use it this nxt weekend and to back to back pulls...but ive gota open my t/b bores first...

ulakovic22 nailed it on the t/b....lt1 and plenum volume is the reason no lt1 guys make 500hp on motor with streetable hydrolic rollers...sheetmetal intake will help a bunch...this is also why we have the "doghouse" mod

i have seen a few threads on here about the ls1 lid setup, it is very possible and it will fit it just requires you to hack up the rad support a bit, i am to lazy to do a search right now but there are threads with pics around

You wouldn't be able to get a radiator support somewhere would ya? I'll do the conversion just want to find the parts. Sheet metal doesn't sound bad either. I'm not too concerned how it looks under the hood. I care how it performs.

Let me know where you are going to do your pulls and I'll meet ya there.

Do you know anyone who can do the aluminum work in the area for the doghouse mod?

thanx for the dyno numbers with the cutout open and closed.
I installed mine back in jan. I went from a 8:02 best to a 7:86 best in the 8th. had me all confused, it felt slowed due to the noise

Just commenting on the LS1 lid issue.

I personally think your better off with a LT1 SLP, Moroso, K&N, etc cold air setup. I think the air will be cooler from that location than from where the LS1 filter grabs air(although it is a straighter shot into the engine).

I've been running a K&N setup for years, but I'm getting ready to ditch it for a Moroso unit. The K&N's filter bolts up directly to the plastic cold air tube and the tube collapses easily if over tightened(does not take much).
I'm sure that the Moroso unit has a metal adapter to bolt the filter to....

well in front of the radiator the air is just as cool as it is where a lt1 k&n is....same air just a straighter shot...plus guys making high hp found out the lt1 elbows were sucking in during pulls and restricting airflow....

meangrn no1 local does the lt1 doghouse that i know....cant help you there...pm sent
