ahhh...the neverending Borla vs the world thread...well I can say I've heard both, but I'll start with non-stock setups & these two catbacks because I'm not stock.

* LoudMouth; with longtubes/no cats & major engine work/heads/cam/etc is very loud sounds pretty good just a little too LS1 raspy sounding for my taste, but still sounds good.

* Borla (my setup); (wide-open no restrictor plates)/longtubes/no cats/major enginework/cam/heads/yada yada yada is freaking INCREDIBLE, it's really loud but has an american muscle deep & throaty tone that I get constant compliments on from both young & old, of course I love it too.

Personally I think there are many good setups out there for catbacks and quite honestly when I was stock (engine/heads/cam/etc) and added the JetHot longtubes I hated the Borla....way too raspy, yet prior longtubes and cat removal the Borla sounded great. Bottom line, waking up the engine/heads/cam/etc really let Borlas true colors show for me and I'm happy with it again and not considering selling it anymore.

here are some sound clips of various setups I found on the net. One day I'll add mine to the list.

Loudmouth is a hell of a lot louder than the Borla.

My buddy has mid-lengths and a Borla vs my LTs and LM, difference in loudness is night and day.

No problem, just don't jump on every post on here about LM being louder than Borla till you do some research, loud and raspy sure LM provides plenty of that, just take your time and do some real research, as you notice most that post don't bother saying what their setup includes other than it's just loud..., if your doing it right theres more than just "loud" that makes an exhaust system really sweet ...

Don't you have 1 or two dynatech cones in there? Or did you take them out when you did the h/c?

IMO that is a KEY part of that setup

I had them in for a week, removed and sent them back to Summit Racing, didn't care for them. I didn't notice hardly any change in sound/tone with the Dynatech cones when I was stock with longtubes, borla, no-cats. It still had the Loudmouth/LS1 sounding raspy ricer sound that sucks, it was a mere 2 weeks after removing the cones that I swapped engines/h/c, etc and that my friend was the "KEY part of the setup"

The Borla XR-1's are illegal right? I was told they weren't 50 states legal or something....

think your correct, I think Summit would state whether or not they are, check out their online catalog. I doubt they are legal except for the track.

Had the cones in for a week, they definitely take out the raspy popping backfire sound when you shift, it mellowed the overall sound down just a hair, it's still not as deep as it was with stock exhaust manifold and cats but I'm going to figure out something.
I remembered that thread back when you were first toying around with it, which is why i thought you had the cones in. I didn't understand that you removed them after a week, i thought you where just posting the results after a week

I'm just glad you got it figured out and that your happy with your setup. It's embarrassing to ride around in a rauchy obnoixious sounding ride.

High flow FLP cats also keep it deep

I love the sound of the loudmouth, it sounds really really really loud & has a NASCAR sound to it, its scarry when you get on the gas with those things, I've heard it on an LS1 with FLP longtubes with no cats & a 228/228 cam & all I can say is WOW, its so loud when my buddy would hit the gas my ears would start ringing, & its scarry sounding, like NASCAR WEEEEEEEEEEEYYYYYYY sound, everyone looks

Okay first things first. The sound clips do not pay lm justice or other catbacks for that matter. Before I got my system i must had listed to a dozen or so clips and when i got it on the car it sounded nothing like it.

Second. I dont have major mods on the car and it still sounds cool. Also the sound i get from the car is mellow. People always tell how great the car sounds and how it sounds like an old school muscle car. And when i do open it up. Like said in earlyer posts it sounds like a nascar.

And...He asked in the first post..Whats louder?..thats why we started on that. Loudness not tone.

Correct.
Besides, if sound (tone) is the key variable than I think we would all be in agreement that nothing sounds better than a big bumpstick and a good head job.............. Wait that didn't come out right

I love my loudmouth with single cat and manifolds, and stock engine. But if I understand the previous posts correctly, That when I add my LT's and !cat, it will sound bad with my LM?
I'm still undecided on the no cat thing so opinions welcome.

(don't mean to highjack this thread)

I have the Borla on mine and I would say that with the solid plate in the Borla the Loudmouth is much louder, but with the plate out I think the Borla is louder.
