Bought a 94 Z28 and I love it!

I just bought this car and I absolutely love it. Power wise it feels real strong comparing it to my third gen which has been into the high 11's at 4000ft alt. My third gen is currently being worked on , I have it apart to put in some nice parts to it . Now I am thinking seriously of taking the setup and building up my 94 z28. I understand the heads need to be converted (Dart pro 1's 215) but should be worth the expense, the forged J E pistons along with the manley 6.125 rods should be ok with the lt1 crank ( will be balanced) might have to go with a different crank. How is this sounding you all? A single plane intake to go with the setup would be a must . I had every intention of doing the work on my 86 Z but the 94 Z28 changed all that.

Ah, another thirdgenner? Cool.
I'd say use the 4th gen as daily fun..build up the 3rd gen. When you get the 3rd gen up and running, put the 4th gen under ths knife Gotta keep them in rotation!

Tamatt27 thanks for the reply. Yes, I guess I am jumping the gun. I went out to look at my 86 car and I just can't scrap the project that is already in motion. You make a good point in keeping them in rotation. The reason I am so relaxed even though I can't take my 86 to the track is cuz I've got this94 Z keeping me happy for know. I've moddified the 4th gen already , it's got the tb bypass mod, free flowing exhast, iat relocation, 160 t stat and cai . Oh , and I just got the airfoil today . It's just weird going down the 1/4 mile track and about to cross the traps and I just barely shifted into 3rd usually in my 86 I am hitting 6500rpms in 3rd gear and I am doing the shifting with my 94 the computer is shifting for me.

I don't think the heads you have will work on an LT1. Its reversed flow cooling so some things are different. I'm sure you may have noticed LT1 and LS1 parts cost alot more then regular SBC parts.

Yes some are more expensive. As far as hard parts they are basically the same cost wise. I have not necessarily gone with inexpensive parts for my third gen(forged assembly) so my wallet my not know the difference. The induction sure is way more for a FI engine than it is for a carbed motor , both have their pros and cons. The fun part is I will have both to tinker with . I need some catching up to do with the FI tuning but this great site will surely point me in the right direction.

there is a way to use those heads but it requires a bit of machining, and fabrication, my engine builders wantignt o put his sbc 383 in an ls f body

Late Model Engineering in Houston can convert the heads for about 500$, theres also a shop in Indiana that does it, I wanna say their called CFM machine. A lot of guys convert carb intake manifolds to f.i, its not a bad choice.
