Broke/bent ALL 16 pushrods

Why would anyone suspect that the valves hit the pistons?...Unless something was misassembled. I'm using a CC305 with 1.6 rockers, my heads have been shaved, and I'm only using .038" head gaskets.
Just curious why we're looking in this direction.....

Yea, I did let it run that long but I actually was on the ground looking for leaks. No leaks but lots of bad noises and she cut herself off before I could get back over there. I did take the heads off and everything looks good, VERY clean for having 125k miles on it. I figured that I would put a new head gaskets on there since I have it torn apart this much anyways. Who knows, I might even gasket match port them while Im down. I also quadruple checked the timing chain and sure enough, I had the timing dead on, dot to dot. I think with the comp R lifters, I didnt let them soak in oil long enough(I let the set for about an hour) and when they pumped, stuff started bending and breaking. The lifters are soaking in oil as we speak and will stay there until I get new pushrods in and get it all back together. I think I was very lucky that I didnt screw things up even further and got away with only having to buy new pushrods. Thanks for everyones help and hopefully I can get her back on the road in a few days.

Just a few things I've read in this thread I'd like to give my opinion about:
1. Piston to valve clearance. You are fine. Like 12scndz said, there is a lot of room on LT1's. I'm runnning a CC306 (544/576), heads shaved .030, and a impy .029 head gasket, and there is still plenty of room to work with.
2. I let my comp R's soak in oil for about a total of 1 minute, and they were fine. They pumped up and the lash was the same. I however have no clue as to what your problem is All I know is yeah, it sucks to put your car together and then have to tear it down immediately again...I had to twice. BTW, other than the valvetrain noise, it definitely idled nice Loped good and held a steady idle. My idle surged like crazy at first...well, still does...

Thanks for your input and it blows me away that I obliterated all 16 of those pushrods. I have some pics around here somewhere, Ill post them up for a good laugh for everyone when I find them. The only thing that I can think of is that I set the lash on the rockers when I had the 95+ cam sprocket on. I took the front back apart, replaced the sprocket, reassembled everything, and cranked it without adjusting the rockers again and yes, everything was timed correctly. Could that have messed anything up? The only other thing is that I didnt let the lifters pumped up and the lash ended up being to tight but still, wouldnt that pop the poly-locks instead of bending all of my pushrods? Im ordering the new pushrods tomorrow and would really like to figure out what really happened before I pop some one piece chromoly ones in there and really tear some stuff up. Thanks again.
