Thumbs down Broke HARD...never heard of this happening before

I have never heard of this happening to anyone.

Here's the story:

I started hearing a "loose" sound on the front passenger side. I figured it was just a nut that had worked itself loose since the LS1 brake upgrade I did. I jacked it up tonight to see what I could find. The front sway bar bracket on the passenger side broke and took part of the frame with it. Check this out -

Front part of bracket

Rear part of bracket with a chunk of the FRAME

What can I do now?
Can it be welded?

I am sure that could be patched by a competent person.

HAhahahahhahah that fawker just plain ripped out on ya! That sucks anyway you can prep it by cleaning it off then taking to a friend with a welder! Should be a relatively easy fix. good luck man~~~rob

There was no rippin in that last post. Shoebox is the man.

I am thinking that I will have to have a plate welded onto the outside and then drilled for the bolt.

Do you think this will cause any alignment issues with the swaybar or bracket?

Holy Sh*t, did you hear that sucker break? That must have made a hell of a bang! The sway bar doesn't contribute to the alignment.

really all this is going to cause is your car to handle like crap until its fixed.

Like shoebox said, take it to a competent welder and they should be able to fix it.

Something similar has happened to me, THREE TIMES!

It was after I installed the energy suspension poly endlinks ad bushings. Yes they were the right size. The brackets have snapped three times. Every single time they go out with a Bang that makes me jump in my car seat. It happened when I was "testing" the new handling prowess, just going fast on some curves, and on the highway for some reason....

I did the fix myself with my dads arcwelder, and I realized later I was using the wrong rods. Dumb@ss... It was only after my gf's dad who is a retired master underwater welder explained what kinds I should use with what that I realized I'd just put crap, on crap...

its actually pretty common believe it or not. I would just replace it, the sway bar mount is seperate from the chassis. or you can just weld it

Actually it is not just the mount. The mount, mount bolt actually broke a chunk of the frame out. I cant decide if it would be better to just weld a plate to the bottom (possibly causing misalignment of the bracket) or cutting more of the frame out and welding a larger piece flush with the frame.

No I didnt hear it break, but I did hear parts of the frame falling off against the underside of the car.

I think for right now I am going to remove the front swaybar so I can still drive it.

Thanks for the help.

i would clean up the area real good, and weld a plate to the frame and re-drill like you said. Should be fine after that.

I would think all of them have it. It is the part that hold the "u" shaped piece around the bushing and bolts directly to the frame. Maybe it is another 93 only item. Please let me know.

Blk94Z28LT1- You just think I should put the plate on the outside adding to the thickness of the frame?
