My buddy from work has a 93 z28 and he noticed that a few inches of his dipstick was broken off, he has heads and cam work done and thats it, then his friend has a LT1 impalla not sure of the year, its completely stock and his dipstick is broke off a couple of inches. They wanted me to ask on here so the question is What may be causing this to happen, is it common or what? And the other question is is it harmful to have the broken piece in there?

Could just be age, I never heard of anything that would cause that problem
