budget valvetrain??

I have been lurking around trying to decide what route i wanna go with this, and im not sure if i should just purchase the lt4 hotcam kit and call it done, or go for something better valvetrain wise and ignore even bothering with a cam for now. I'm looking to spend no more than 800 and thats having a shop intsall it all too. So whats the best way to go with this? im thinking comp cams 1.6 pro mag rockers with 918 springs. if i go cam ill get new lifters and pushrods too. but im unsure even on this... someone set me on the path! lol

So nobody has any suggestions on this? I take it the best way then is to go with the lt4 hotcam kit and get the comp 1.6 roller rockers. I would like some insight as to where to go with this, but for now this is the best way i can figure it. (also bumping my budget up to ~1100) apparently shops like to arm and leg it for this type of install lol.

if you don;t have a cam then why bother...
just put a new set of springs on it...
and you can do it yourself, just take your time

If you do a cam you're going to need a tune too. there's no way in hell to buy a cam/springs and have it installed fort $800 unless you get a killer deal on the install price.

Hotcam Kit is the budget kit! Most other setups done right are $1000 or more.

If you want to fall around 800 bucks, the Hotcam kit will be your best bet. It also comes with the 1.6 roller rockers. However, I don't see you getting away with not spending somewhere in the ballpark of 800 bucks for the install itself.

well considering i had a 6 spd conversion and an engine swap done for under 1k for labor i hope ill be able to, if not then ill probly just take the parts and put them in a pile with my old motor for the build up, but then it wont be the hotcam kit i get either lol, and i was under the impression the hotcam kit didnt come with rockers, that makes it that much more enticing. summit lists it for 479 shipped direct to me. tab that in the comparison with the gdfx i would buy for 561 + install + paint.. it balances out either change is gonna tap the scales easily around 1100-1200. ill probably post a poll in the general tech or f-body lounge later on.. still indecisive until i call a shop and get an install price on either.

back to the point here though, say i wanted to do just the hotcam kit. what all does it come with and what are the extra goodies i would need? (ive heard its a good idea to go ahead and upgrade the springs if you purchase the lt4 hotcam kit that true?)

i understand ill have to get a tune too, i already have a madz28 tune, and an update is just $40, plus ive found a local dyno that does dyno tuning for 120!.. i just want to see some of their work before i go that route and ruin my mail-order tune for a worse dyno tune =/
