Building 383

Last night I bought a 350 block with stock heads, stock intake, stock throttle body, and stock lower end. I'm looking to build a 383 with around 600 horsepower and foot lbs of torque before I put a procharger on it. I may also put nitrous on it as well just so I can have the baddest car around town unless it's a bad idea to mix procharger with nitrous?? I'm currently looking at Advanced Induction 215 CNC'd heads with a custom grind cam, 6.0 rods, a 400 crankshaft and a stock intake just ported and polished. I need to know everything else possible to reach my numbers or if you suggest anything better! Your help is greatly appreciated thanks so much!!

Wooohhh wooohhh hold on there buddy

Sounds like you really need to do some research on boost and n/a engines. First off you will need a low compression forged bottom end for the boost at that power level and there is no way you will get 600hp doing a low compression n/a build even high compression LT1s don't get to that power without some extreme mods and big $$$$$$$. I'm assuming you bought an LT1 engine since your on the LT1 section.

I know I need a low compression for that I just don't know exactly what I need. How much money exactly are we looking at?! Haha and yes I bought an lt1 out of a 94 z28

Re: Building 383

Ok first off what is your rwhp goal?

For a low compression setup you will need some forged dished pistons the -2Xcc depends on what compression ratio you want to run and maybe some aftermarket heads for the bigger chambers to lower it some more. I'm no where near an expert on forced induction but I do know the basics.

Money wise here is a rough estimate of what I can come up with

Let's see here you will need to spend at least $5000 on the engine(and it think that's on the VERY low side), $2500 for a rear end, $2000(rough estimate) for a beefed up tranny, $1500 for bolt ons, $4000-6000 for a procharger kit, and let's say another $1000 for miscellaneous crap.

Yeah that's a pretty good estimate then you have things like suspension, slicks, etc. My rwhp goal is most likely gonna be high 4's low 5's that's a pretty good amount I think. Right now I have the motor only..I'm waiting till it gets alittle nicer outside probably April to purchase an actual chassis which will hopefully have moat bolt ons already done too it

Re: Building 383

For such a modest RWHP goal spray would be FAR more cost-effective. When I mean cost-effective, I mean it will cost HALF of what a boosted setup will run.

You sound very new to this sort of thing so I suggest you slow down and read these forums front to back, including the Forced Induction forum, so you get a better idea of what a supercharged build takes.

Ideally you're looking at an easy $15,000, most likely more. 500whp on spray will cost you less than half that (and be FAR more reliable).

Lastly, I HIGHLY suggest you take a ride in a ~400whp car (because it sounds like you haven't) and see how that feels. An admittedly new driver to the 500whp mark is a very dangerous thing. 400whp can usually satisfy just about everyone.
