Cool

I'm not sure, but previous posts have suggested a heat shield for the starter.I think when the starter gets too hot,it has a safety device inside that shuts itself down.Anybody else?

I have long tube headers and there real close to my starter with no hot start problem at all . It sounds like to me you need a A/C delco starter not some cheap Autozone or Pep Boys rebuilt crap.

Heat increases electrical resistance. So if your electrical connections are not real good you may be able to start when the engine is cold but the connections get increased resistance when warm and create problems. I'd first check for good clean and tight connections to the solenoid. That won't cost you any money. If that doesn't work consider a heat shield around the solenoid. Furd unlike GM decided a long time ago to put their starter solenoid away from the high heat area around the starter motor.

You may also have bad starters as mentioned above. If you are buying remans some are good and some are junk. Get the GMPP lightweight starter. I bought a GMPP version for my BBC engine and I love it.
