Buying retainers for my Lunati springs, 7 or 10 degree? What valve stem size??
Here is what it says on Summit.
Lunati steel valve spring retainers are precision-manufactured from the best quality chromemoly steel bar stock available. They are available for 5/16, 3/8, and 11/32 in. valve stem diameters, in both 7 and 10 degree tapers. In addition, all Lunati steel retainers are black oxide coated for corrosion resistance.
What should I order, I am using Lunati springs, and these are the retainers called for.
Thanks,
James

11/32 stem
Either 7 degree or 10 degree will work, but its a good idea to opt for the 10 degree. You need to make sure your valve locks match the retainers.

Would I need to call Lunati for that? Also, will these retainers work with a set of S/A roller rockers, I think some retainers sit too high.

Yes some retainers sit too high. I had a set of titanium k motion retainers that sat +050 up on the valve stem and they barely tapped my rocker arm body. It was so minute it never gave me any problems. With my new combo i went ahead and put in a standard lock to get a touch more clearence.
Anyways, i am not too familiar with lunati's product line, maybe someone else here can chime in. Also, if you arent positive on what you are doing when setting up a valvetrain, its not a bad idea to have a buddy come over and watch over you who knows what they are doing, or take them somewhere. You not only need to install the stuff, but also set up the installed height of the springs and shim them accordingly to get proper seat pressure.

I have my heads at a machine shop, I am just putting together the peices that fit, and he's going to do the rest of the valve train on the heads. The shop is a pro sprint car machine shop called wells racing motors. I will have him check all those variables.

PS- you think lunati's tech line can answer my questions?

Lunati's tech line will be able to help you for sure.
Tell them you need a 10* lock and retainer set up for XXX springs and 11/32 valve. They should be able to get you squared away.
However... they may also offer an option of different installed heights for your locks/retainers other than standard (likely +.050 or -.050). If this is the case, you would be better off talking to the guys setting up the heads, as they will have a better idea of what you should do.
