Doing any camswap can risk spining a bearing no matter how big the cam is. Just take your time and make sure to do a clean install. From the sounds of it a hotcam kit would work well for you, makes good power, peaks around 6k and includes the springs, 1.6 rockers and cam for about 500 bucks, do a search...

You have a little research to do before doing anything... the stock springs can not control a cam bigger than stock, when doing a cam swap the route mose people take are new: springs, locks/retainers, timing set, 1.6 NSA roller rockers, pushrods, guideplates and an electric waterpump... to do the job right its costly, almost $1500 for all of it. At a minimum you need new springs and locks/retainers, reusing a old timing set isn't the best idea but would work for a while. Now on to the A4 shift points, niether cam really, to get all you can out of the cams you really need to turn them higher which means higher shift points, the 305 is milder and will require a lower shift point than the cc306.

not really sure i guess i have a 6 speed so i can shift whenever i feal like it, haha. That being said i shift my 306 at 6800, might be a little high but it works, for a 305 not really sure, do a search, maybe 62-6400??
