does this mean the cam is too big?
You do have the timing chain set installed, right? The small base circle cam in my 383 would come in contact with the rods before I installed the timing set.

I have the cc306 cam(standard base circle) in my 383 with no interference problems.

Just because it worked with someone elses rotating assembly doesn't mean it will work with the parts (rods) you have.

1, 2, 5, & 6 will hit, and you can use a long wire tie to check clearance. They are about .060" thick

Here's a pic for reference, top cam is a small base circle LPE 211/219 cam.
Middle cam is a LE1.5 cam, about a 1" base circle.
Bottom cam is the stocker, about 1.2" base circle.

The idea with most cams to to make the max lift on the lobe just a tad shorter than the cam bearing surface, so the lift determines what the base circle will be.

I would just clearance the rod bolts at this point, no need to go buy a new cam, its easy and you will have no problems if you remove only whats needed.

Whats the normal procedure? Just pull each of the rods out and grind with a dremel one at a time?

Okay, I just pulled the cam and its "base" is exactly 1"

I know 7/8 is hitting, but cant figure out which one.
and then it looks like 1/2 is, not sure which.

put some clay on it.....put a little oil on top of the clay so it wont stick on the cam, rotate it and see whats hitting.

What rod bolts are you using?

is there anything else I need to do other then remove the rod and grind the head of the bolt?
any changes after re-installing the rod?

you have to make sure it will even work first. Just do a little at a time and try it at least. Take the rings off so you don't break one...you will have it in and out several times
