CAM for my land yacht with 383
Okay So I've spent the last few weeks cruising through here, ls1tech, and NAISSO for cam advice...I need emissions legal, I want 400RWHP. The bottom end is 383, forged, headers and full exhaust, tri-y's and spin tech catback....what heads cam will get the emission power done for me?

Re: CAM for my land yacht
I have no personal experience, but have done a ton of searching and
reading on this and other boards. I would say that the GM 846/CC 503
or equivalent cams are about the limit to pass smog in CA. I'm not sure
where you are located, but it can't be worse than CA. Your goal of 400
rwhp with a smog legal cam may not be possible, probably close though.

Re: CAM for my land yacht
there are some guys with near that power on www.impalassforum.com that would be of signifigant help one in particular I know of has something like 390 at the wheels and passes CA smog, his torque numbers are out of this world too.
Naisso has it's purposes but is the wrong Impala forum for real engine tech as most of the big dogs are on the other board and may only occassionally venture over to NAISSO.
Heads are going to be the thing you probably want to look at ported LT4s or ported aftermarkets.

Re: CAM for my land yacht
ABA383 has been making over 400rwph street legally for quite some time, nearly ten years last I checked. I'd talk to him about what setup would get you there. I quick call to Lloyd Elliot might yeild promising results too.

Re: CAM for my land yacht
I have a Lloyd Elliott LE2 package on the way as we speak. On my forged 355 it should net right at 400 rwhp per Lloyd. With my gears and stall hoping to see low 12's N/A @4400 lbs. Lloyd is great to deal with and is very competitive on pricing. Package was 1650.00 with me suppling the aluminum LT1 heads cores. Good luck. Here is Lloyd Elliott's # 1-972-617-5671. Call himand he will setup the right package for your needs.

Re: CAM for my land yacht
I was emissions legal with the LPE set up...I had the 211/219 .533/.560 cam and 2.00/1.56 valves with CNC/hand porting by LPE with their 383 package. But, it was not in a 4000plus/lb car. Check with Bryan Herter at Pcmforless.com. If memory serves me correctly he's running high 11s in his Impala and does not have a big cam either. He tuned my current combination, and while I'm not emissions legal anymore, he did a great dyno tune on my set up...He would know how to set up one of those "land yachts, and would know what is/is not emissions legal/compliant. I think he said he makes 390 at the wheels with a 383 or 396...Now with all the custom cam grinders out there you don't have to settle for off the shelf stuff either. I just know from experience that the LPE stuff works fantastic and passed MDs strict emissions....
