And did you or Bret physically see my heads? The answer is NO.
I had 2 independant shops check out the heads and they both said the machine work was the cause of the problem. But somehow you 2 who have NEVER seen the heads can decide what the cause of the issue was? I think not.

And if you want to continue this PM me instead of hyjacking a thread.

Its a shame that people have to mess these threads up with their petty bickering.

For the original question and the desire for daily driver qualities I suggest one of the
smaller HR cams like the Crane 104227, GM 845, GM Hotcam, CC 501/502, TPIS ZZ9,
LPE 211/219, etc. I think you get the picture. If you want more after you put in a
smaller cam then consider doing heads for the extra uumph. This is what I have done
and I'm hopeful to get to 360 rwhp next time at the dyno.

I'm very happy with my setup and it's CA smog legal too.

Here is another question.

What lift do the stock heads max out at?

That might answer a few questions.

I will also need to pick the RIGHT valvetrain parts to keep this stone reliable. From what i can search, the behive springs (but from a company called PAC racing???) and 7/16s studs with Comp Pro Mag 1.6 RR.

I also need some lifters. Again doing a search, some LS7 lifters would work well???

What is the best place to order a complete cam/valvetrain/lifter packages so I can give to my head builder when the heads get done??

Thanks,

Igor.

The question of which heads are best will always get you into a major debacle
on this board. So do some searching on your own and then post up some very
specific questions. Avoid questions like which heads/cam package is the best.
Call the vendors and talk to them and see what you think. I chose my head
provider based on a lot of thought and research and discussions with others.
It sounds like you are inclined to go a direction that will not give the results
you describe. You are talking about cams and lifts that will take you away from
the daily driver manners. So think about what you really want. If it's a nasty lope
and high rpm performance then go big like a CC 306, GM 847, etc, but be prepared
to provide the valvetrain to support it. If you really want a daily driver then you
better start looking seriously at the smaller cams.

+1 on the crane 227. Had that for awhile and it was a great DD cam, no cam surge and gobs of torque from idle-6k.

go for the 503, many people are putting down 350rwhp and similar torque. That or the xfi268 (not sure on #) is close to the 503 and puts down similar numbers.
As for the heads, if your going to cleanthem up and mill them for compression, why not spend another 300 or 400 for some light porting?
But whatever way you pick you ll be way over 320rwhp if its tuned and running right. Id say between 340-365rwhp depending on: portwork, how much added comp, and what cam you go with.
Even with my projected numbers your 125 shot will be fine on the bottom end. If the piston rings and gap are for n20 you should be good till a 200 shot. From there its risky business. Good luck
