Which Cam should I Go With?

Which Cam should I Go With?
I plan on doing a cam and ported heads soon, so i just wanted to get some opinions on which cams on the market are the best. I'm looking for a cam that'll make good power without too much loss of drivability (gas milage). Something pretty streetable. Nothing too agressive like a 110 LSA. I'm looking for like a 114 or 112.

#1 Who's heads?
#2 What you are actually looking for is a low overlap cam, not a large LSA cam. A 110LSA might be perfect for you, then again a 108LSA or a 112LSA might be perfect. It's all a comprimise.

If you home port and want to keep things small there are several to look at:
CC 304, Crane 104227, CC 501, GM 845, TPIS ZZ9, GM Hot, CC 502, CC 305
If you want to go a tad bigger:
GM 846, CC 503 , plus Isky, Crower, Lunati and probably some others have
off the shelf stuff.
If you have some extra $$, have your heads professionally ported and get a
custom cam to match. If I did it again, that's what I would do.
Remember, all of this is in the baby cam world as compared to most on this
board. Bigger is definately not always better. And as Bret said, don't get too
caught up in high ICLs. A 112 is probably a good upper limit.

Re: Which Cam should I Go With?
After rebuild before SC, i used the CC306, i cant say anything but good things about this cam, but im also using Street ported LT4 heads.
I still think CC306 would do you fine, also has a whicked sound to it, need to be heard to be appreciated.

well yeah i can get a CC306 on any LSA, if i wanna pay out the *** for a custom grind, but i'm not trying to blow too much money on a cam, i want some cash left over for some 1.6's.

Re: Which Cam should I Go With?
"not too much loss of drivability"
"not too agressive"
"pretty streetable"
"gas mileage"
You really need to be more specific than that since everyone has a different idea of what those factors mean.JMHO

I'd just like a cam that will give a decent power gain without making the car into a track only car. That clear things up?

Re: Which Cam should I Go With?
Well, this is just my opinion: If you want a car that is "daily driven", that has good low to mid range power (around 350 RWHP) idles stock, sounds stock, easy to tune, power range under 6000 RPM, you might consider a small cam with around 210/224 on 112 or 218/226 on 112 or at any rate something with dual pattern with an intake between 210-220 and an exhaust of around 224-228 on 112 with lifts under 525 intake and under 560 exhaust (with 1.6 RRs)
This is assuming either LTs or shorties and ported heads.
At any rate, you will need good springs to go along with the cam.
Anything larger (again this is just my opinion) you might be compromising the idle, the low end tQ that comes stock with the Lt1, and the longevity of your bottom end with your 2 bolt mains.
This setup is probably capable of mid 12s and around 112-115 MPH with an A4. Add to that some 3.73 gears, a 2800 TCs and you might even do better.
Again: Bear in mind who is talking here, since I really don't know what the hell I'm talking about.
