Yeah i definitely dont wanna compromise my bottom end. I prolly want to stay at or below 550 lift. And if you look at my mods in my sig, you might get a feel for what would be best. I have edelbrock mids (or shorties whatever you consider them) and a 3200 stall.

Hmmmm that's odd every Comp vendor pays the same for a CC306 as they do a custom grind... so they should all cost the same, I know it does if you buy it from Comp.

As for the lift guys it's all part of the system, sticking to a lower lift might hurt you depending on the lobe area, the duration and a few other factors.... in reality the springs, rocker arms and budget are what limit valve lift not arbitrary factors, and ESPECIALLY not head flow. If your head flow drops off at higher RPM then you have more problems than you know how to solve.

Bret did my cam. It was custom and was ground on a billet core. You'd be surprised at how inexpensive it is. My cam is somewhat similiar to the GM 847, cept' with a lil more lift and it is fairly tame .
When I started all this, I was skeptical about my cam selection. I trusted Lloyd and his decisions and what Bret ground the cam too. For as skeptical as what I was, the first time it fired it and got to tromp on it, I was all smiles. I am a believer now, without a doubt.

BTW the billet cores are more expensive no matter who you get them from, now they got worse since you have to run a bronze gear OR pay extra to get the oil pump drive/distributor gear heat treated to work with the stock gear drive.

Re: Which Cam should I Go With?

Perfect candidate for a HOTcam. Will work really well with the 3200 stall! I had a HOTcam and some home ported heads on the stock bottem end. Ran 8.1 @87 in the 1/8th on a mail order tune, bolt ons and 2800 stall. It really needed some more stall because I could dead hook it on the track and pull 1.8 short times.

BTW, got 22 mpg with that setup on a 75% highway/25% city driving trip.

Re: Which Cam should I Go With?

My friend was saying comp charges more to get the 306 on a 114 instead of the normal 112 LSA, but maybe he's wrong?

Re: Which Cam should I Go With?

they might charge your friend more, but bret's results may vary on that one.

and bret whats up with the heat treating on the dist gear now. they quit pressing the cast iron ones on, or just raised the price on that?

They basically stopped making it free since the core supplier had to eat the cost of doing it before... at least that's my take on it.
